As for "contemporary composers" no never, but it also helps that ASM gets whatever she wants, HOWEVER she never played any of her other commissions like this, even the concerto Andre wrote for her I think she played less than this one.
 

And come to think of it, I don't think there is any concerto in history that got played like this while composers were still alive.

Before the two encores (after Violin Concerto No. 2), ASM let the audience know that JW had visited Hamburg in the 1960s where he attended a performance of a Wagner opera.

 

She also stated that JW had personally selected the two encores to go on tour through Europe.

 

Who would have thought that we would hear Helena's Theme live in Germany in 2023 (in my case, even before the CD with the violin arrangement has arrived from Disney Emporium)?

Thus, the concert is characterized by passages that sound free and almost improvised, interrupted by rousing virtuoso runs and technical high-wire acts. Anne-Sophie Mutter is in Australia this weekend premiering the concerto at Sydney Opera House, with Simone Young and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra also performing a selection of underrated and famous film music. 

Encores were Across the Stars, The Duel, and Schindler's List.

Nice to see it's still spreading internationally to major venues and artists. Simone Young was a frequent conductor of the Wiener Philharmoniker (in its original function as the Vienna State Opera orchestra), I've seen her conduct Strauss and Wagner (including at least one full Ring) many times.

Lohengrin conducted by Simone Young was what I got in 2019 thanks to JW cancelling his VPO debut. Back then I was like "well that's it folks re JW in Europe...will have to do with good old Wagner."

Last night in Leipzig, ASM with Gewandhaus & Nelsons gave excellent readings of Helena, Cinderella and Long G., all in one program!

 

Helena's Theme followed VC2 as an encore.

Thanks for sharing, although (obviously) nothing new there. Typical mainstream media interview, with amusing delay. The endless adulations from all directions make me uncomfortable.
