Smeltington 1,436
I guess the biggest downside to that will be if people want to update posts they made for reference with new information. Like cue lists, OST breakdown guides, etc.
Jay 37,323
Right, there was no option to turn it off if it was post#1 in a thread. It's just something we're playing with, could easily revert
Holko 9,499
Can a mod still edit others' posts? I remember once something was placed under a NSFW spoiler, or those where a thread was split in two or posts are moved and a disclaimer is placed in one to indicate that. If yes, that could be a solution we can pester you with.
Jay 37,323
of course moderators can edit posts, that's literally the point of having moderators

Sometimes these types of resources appear further into a thread, though. Like in the Legends of the Fall thread, I posted a breakdown of the bonus tracks, then I went back and edited it a few times with more info that other people shared. Maybe in that type of situation I could create a new thread just to make sure I could always edit the post, but there wasn't much discussion around that release anyway, so it seems to make sense to keep it to one thread. Thor 7,478
Not sure I'm thrilled with this 'no edit' after 1-hour function. And I'm not only talking about fixing errors or modifying something that may have been written 'in the heat of the moment'. I often need to edit old posts -- like certain 'research threads' about old TV shows etc. that need periodic updating. But I'm not the boss here, you do as you please, of course! Jay 37,323
I think 24 hours might make more sense than 61 minutes, but it still doesn't solve the problem of being able to maintain "resource" posts.

Thor 7,478
I would be fine with it if there was some way I could get 'special access' to edit certain threads -- like the "TV show" thread and a couple of others. I have similar threads on FSM, so it's kinda 'backed up' there, but since it concerns Williams, it would be great to share this with JWFAN members as well, if and when new information surfaces. Jay 37,323
Exactly what I'm talking about. I wish there was a way to allow certain posts to be editable forever, but the software doesn't allow it. It's all or nothing. Actually, there is a way, the setting is determined by user group. Currently all users are in a group called Members, other than myself, Inky, Ricard, etc who are in admin type groups. But theoretically a new group could be created for people to have unlimited edit access, but I can just see that being a nightmare to maintain

The entire feel of this broadcast was that of timelessness in a way. First Jurassic Park, then Williams-suggested Beethoven's 6th Symphony, then Mozart's Jupiter, then Leonard Bernstein, and at the end Flight to Neverland. Williams discussed nature, talked remembering World War II, and had a normal, rather unimpaired eloquence about everything, despite it being nearly 80 years later(!). He was in a very self confident mood; got called the modern Mozart and this time did not shoot down such comparisons, got asked about scoring more films, and did not express any self-doubt. Popular Post Thor 7,478
It was an OK interview, and thankfully there weren't so many of the old clichée stories. On the other hand, it DID contain some of my other annoyances: a) the constant back-and-forth gushing that is so prevalent in the US and LA, in particular (makes me cringe every time!) and b) the big and broad, but ultimately empty words about our current situation and the inspiration of music and all that (very "Kumbayah my Lord") and c) the rather general remarks about what they're talking about. What a wasted opportunity, for example, not to ask JW about his piano work on the original WEST SIDE STORY soundtrack when the topic came up. But the thing I took from this was Williams' remarks on other people's music (always interesting), and the news about his new pieces. In short, this was pretty much exactly as I expected. I'm glad I didn't have high expectations to begin with. Minority report 1, Remco, Martinland and 1 other 3

Popular Post King Mark 3,626
It was very interesting about Beethoven's Pastoral (6th) symphony .That first movement is my favorite classical music piece of all time and I discovered it when I was a kid BEFORE I listened to film music. He also calls it the only Beethoven piece of "programmatic" music , which is sort of like film music. So that might be the original piece that destined me to like film music and John Williams. I also think Theme from Jurassic Park might have been inspired by it. 13 minutes ago, Jurassic Shark said: Did JW reveal what he said to Steven after seeing Schindler's List for the first time? WHAT?
