This beloved series, an exciting whirlpool of espionage drama, spy suspense, submarine action and creature features, showcased state-of-the-art effects that would blaze a trail for Allen’s LOST IN SPACE, TIME TUNNEL and LAND OF THE GIANTS to follow in its wake. A vital part of this series’ success and timelessness are its knockout episode music scores, which prove to be some of the finest examples of the era’s orchestral television music. Featuring music by composers Alexander Courage, Robert Drasnin, Jerry Goldsmith, Lennie Hayton, Joseph Mullendore, Nelson Riddle, Paul Sawtell, Herman Stein and Leith Stevens, this deluxe 4-CD set, limited to 1000 units, is produced by Jeff Bond and Neil S. Bulk, executive produced by Kevin Burns, executive produced for 20th Century Studios by Mike Matessino, and digitally edited and mastered by James Nelson. Among the many musical treasures to be found within this exciting release are an expanded presentation of the "Jonah and the Whale" score by Jerry Goldsmith, as well as main and end titles Goldsmith wrote for the show, along with a bumper, and a previously undiscovered, completely different, high-energy never-used main and end title Goldsmith was asked to provide later as an alternate. The set also features scores by Alexander Courage, Leith Stevens and Nelson Riddle that incorporate Goldsmith's theme for the Seaview submarine. Additionally found here are several versions of the popular Paul Sawtell main and end titles that were retained throughout the series, including the fourth season arrangement recorded by Leith Stevens, both the long and short, editorially-created end titles, and bumpers based on the Sawtell theme heard in the first and fourth seasons. Among the five hours of underscore much of the most familiar and often-repeated music from the series can be heard, including a number of cues written to accompany the show's early second season introduction of the Flying Sub. Co-Producer/writer Jeff Bond takes you to the Bottom of the Sea and beyond with exclusive, in-depth liner notes that journey you through a photo-packed 40 page booklet! The mission-ready art design is by Mark Banning. This special release is a limited edition of 1000 units. TRACK LISTING: CD 1 1. Yavar Moradi 2,599
WOW! Five minutes of previously unreleased Goldsmith, all together, which is a lot when you consider by percentage (21%) against what what previously released. And really in one way...it's more than just those five minutes, because of: Time Bomb Music Composed and Conducted by Leith Stevens 22. Seaview Submerged / Checklist** (2:09) 24. Get Into The Car** / Litchka’s Apartment (1:23) 25. Seaview Theme** / Kill Him** / The Switch** / Comrade Litchka / The Bug** / Act Out** (3:05) 26. Let’s Go / On The Floor** (4:07) 27. Singed** (2:21) TOTAL SCORE TIME: 22:16 ** contains “Seaview Theme” by Jerry Goldsmith -- Am I the only person shocked to learn that FOUR other composers used Goldsmith's Seaview Theme, considering his main title(s) ending up rejected? I assumed Jerry's impact on the show was just that single episode score and theme (and based on Jeff's recent revelations, an unused theme). But clearly when Stevens, Courage, Stein, and Riddle were writing and recording their scores, the producers must not have decided against using a Goldsmith theme for season 2 yet...otherwise why would they have incorporated it? Yavar Moradi 2,599
Sorry to hear that. It's a bigger expense for me too, but luckily I just celebrated my anniversary and I'm askin' my wife for this. I doubt it's going to sell out in quick order. Can you save up for it, over time? Forgo a couple other releases to get it? (it's only $15/disc...) bruce marshall 1,315
The problem with these kind of releases is tv scores use and reuse lots of short cues. So, the listening experience can be underwhelming. A better way to go would be just the best cues. Two CDs of engaging music might entice more buyers. Yavar Moradi 2,599
There were four seasons of this show. “The best cues” is exactly what this release is for the most part (and a couple people at FSM hoping for a more comprehensive set a la Lost in Space aren’t too happy about it, or it’s predecessor the four disc Land of the Giants set). In fact they had to leave off a handful of good scores including a couple by Leith Stevens! There’s ample still unreleased material that could fill out another volume or even two if the first season scoring were discovered. Listening to the sound clips, this seems like pretty high quality TV scoring to me... Yavar

Thor 7,504
Curious that the blurb has no mention whatsoever of the VOYAGE CD in the Irwin Allen box (which I own). Thor 7,504
Well, you could be a little incessant in the posting frequency sometimes (in controversial matters), which irked a lot of people there, but personally I never understood how that could warrant banishment. Complete over-reaction! There are other people there who are far more qualified for banishment; who continually throw out nasty personal offenses left and right (like LeHah, for example), even if it is against board rules, but they're still allowed to stay. Um, yeah… in fact I think there are a lot of people who like this set a whole lot more than I do, to be honest. The set sold out pretty quickly and I think was the most successful of all the LLL Irwin Allen sets, sales-wise. For me it was kind of a mixed bag. It did improve my impression of the Goldsmith work for the series, which has historically been near the bottom of his TV work for me. But that unused theme re-do of his they included is IMO a lot better than the original which is kinda dour and plodding. And frankly I really enjoy hearing other composers like Leith Stevens use the Goldsmith theme in ways more similar to his livelier re-do.
