bruce marshall 1,504 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Congrats to Horner fans! I have the fine ost. Good score!
Edmilson 10,522 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Casper is indeed great. Now that the score is complete, I'll be able to judge which one is better, Casper or Balto (both came out in 95). OneBuckFilms and Yavar Moradi 2

As is just about anything by Horner these days. How much is missing from the OST? Karol Edmilson 1
bruce marshall 1,504 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 BALTO is also excellent. For now I'm satisfied with oats.
Marian Schedenig 10,160 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Nice. The OST was possibly the first Horner score I bought "live" when it was newly released. OneBuckFilms 1
Director of Poltergeist 8,124 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 If you subtract the songs and add the unreleased tracks, it all fits on one disc.

Jay 42,451 Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 I've never seen this movie and have no idea how much music might have been recorded that wasn't on the OST album, but I can't wait to hear this new presentation regardless!
mstrox 7,215 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 We watched this movie with our kid the other day. It’s pretty not good, but the score sounded nice. Happy for you Horner fans!
Jay 42,451 Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 "you Horner fans"? You don't like any James Horner scores?
bruce marshall 1,504 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 No com0laints that he ripped of X composer?😳
Jay 42,451 Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 I just remembered I HAVE seen this film! We watched it a few years back during a free month or week or something of HBO. Bill Pullman is the dad, and there's a freaking Dan Aakroyd cameo. Huh.
Director of Poltergeist 8,124 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I saw it in the cinema opening day.
Amer 2,528 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 I suppose Casper on disc 1 is the complete film score program with additional 12 minutes on disc 2 and alternates/ bonus cues.( I doubt the film OST on disc 2.)
publicist 4,648 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 It's pretty vapid, but entertaining. And Horner's colorful music has a big hand in this (it's eclectic but remarkably resourceful orchestrally).
Incanus 5,858 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Curiously this is a Horner score I have never heard in any form. Time to check it out to hear if it warrants a purchase in complete form.
bruce marshall 1,504 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Fwiw I only program FIVE out of the 15 tracks on the ost: 6 8 10 12 15

Incanus 5,858 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Sounds like animation scoring Horner combined with the obligatory Elfman temp track references. I'll have to listen to the whole album now.
publicist 4,648 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 It's on Spotify, but i don't know for which countries. There is a long sentimental theme that grounds all the more animated stuff.
Kühni 484 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 There is a gorgeous passage late in the film where Casper's Lullaby is given a full-strings performance. It is one of those instances where I'd buy a deluxidation simply for one new track...but I can't afford to do that anymore. Alas... blondheim 1

Bayesian 1,513 Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 A 2-disc set means it'll be priced at $29.98, plus shipping. That's kinda outside my budget right now, but this is an irresistible Horner for me, so I know I'll end up ordering next week.
bruce marshall 1,504 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 LLL usually has a 25 percent off sale first week of Sept. Just saying.😊 18 hours ago, Incanus said: Sounds like animation scoring Horner combined with the obligatory Elfman temp track references. ... That's why I only program 5 tracks! Bayesian 1

It's a Shawn Murphy job, that's pretty much a given even with his worst recordings. Casper is a good one though. That end credits swing piece has a lot of punch, too. I seem to remember that it's a bit flat in the treble department, so if the new version sounds a bit brighter, that's probably not a bad thing.
Lady Dimitrescu 9,904 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 I looked up a few tracks of Casper in the waveform, and you can hardly even see it, the friggin thing is so quiet. It's awesome!
Director of Poltergeist 8,124 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Horner was better than Williams Oomoog the Ecstatic 1

I like Willow, Legends of the Fall, and bits and pieces of Titanic. I have a ton of his albums but don’t really care for many of them. Oomoog the Ecstatic 314 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 You've assembled no list. I guess Titanic wins then. Your posts above were most likely drunken.
