That list is both good and bad because of what's  icluded and excluded. 

Looks like the newest score on the list is 16 years old.

It's alphabetical. But JW still nabs the top spot, if memory serves, with Star Wars.

 

For me, I feel I hardly have any time to discover new composers when there is so much I need to catch up on with my mainstays (Elfman, Horner, Desplat, JNH, Menken and, above all, JW). Thanks to this forum, I've become increasingly familiar with Goldsmith and feel he's about to become a mainstay too. That's enough for me right now.

If you're going by awards, the Saturn awards are a better bet than the oscars IMO. The oscars are mostly limited to stuff the academy thinks it's fashionable to nominate whereas the Saturns include the fun popcorn stuff that everyone secretly prefers. In fact I noticed that my favourite Elfman, Sleepy Hollow won in 1999. Good call. The oscars that year are basically a list of the most respected films.

I use mostly websites dedicated to film music reviews such as MMUK and Movie-Wave to discover new things. Jon Broxton always post reviews of foreigner scores from people outside Hollywood, and it's really useful to discover new composers.

I tend to explore Spotify, Youtube and other streaming services if the goal is to 'discover' a new composer, and if that composer has received a lot of buzz from colleagues..

 

I'm also fortunate to receive a lot of promos, and discover several new scores and composers that way.

I read some comments about Danny Elfman on this forum and they were sometimes pretty rude. For my part, I love Elfman, I discovered him with Batman and still think it's one of his best scores.

I'm not sure that I would use the Saturn Awards (or, in fact, any award) for a guide as to what my favourite Elfmans are. That seems weird; trust your own taste, not what some award body says. I guess if I were to select a top 10, it would be something like this:

Standard Operating Procedure and The Unknown Known are two different documentary films by Errol Morris that Elfman scored, using a similar style for both scores.  They don't share any thematic material that I know of

Yes, tied in quality and more or less within the same idiom, Serenada Schizophrana-style. I found it hard to separate them. Incidentally, they're both my favourite scores of each respective year.

That's a great list of excellent scores but this is such an incredible composer with a wide range, you should explore everyone of them!  EVERYONE!
