Holko 9,526
First is the picture, second the movie audio (silent for the most part), and third the LLL cues lined up to mostly accurately recreate the film version music track. Tomorrow I'll render it out in sections then get to the fun part: alternates! Jay

Jay 37,359
You fit the entire score into 5 videos? Interesting!
Holko 9,526
It's fiddly to set privacy and downloadability on, then embed 20+ videos separately. The alternates will be a single other video.

Popular Post Holko 9,526
I did this once but the videos got lost to time in one of the Great Running-Out-Of-Space Drive Purges, so I thought why not redo it? It's a fantastic score which is definitely often allowed to be a driving force at the forefront but also can be very restrained and understated so it works great in this format where it's the only thing present. Methodology has the same basis as HP1 and 2: take the score as gospel, edit the movie around it to fit. Except that adds up to maybe 3-5 microedits across the whole deal, and Mike makes very interesting points in the booklet about certain sections being dialed out very much deliberately - so I thought I'd try something different to indicate those better than a footnote of "0:00-0:35 is unused", and I settled on having the film footage in colour when the synced up score matches the film audio and black and white when it doesn't. Of course there are nuances, once the score is out of sync for a bit because it was edited down in a slightly different point than the footage to keep the musical flow, and sometimes a long fading out final held note is dialed down earlier, I didn't consider these worthy of b&w; however, when whole sections are unused or tracked over, then I applied the treatment. I did keep the colour for most of the alternates because those are presented separately, you know they're not the film takes. So, without further ado: I took the liberty of presenting the full prerecorded Suo Gân as if it was an edited down score cue. I also put in the Mazurka for fun. Home And Hearth's opening is dialed out. Trip Through the Crowd may be a surprise - the piano section near the end is replaced by the piano part in Return to the City. Imaginary Air Battle's opening is also dialed out, and there's a microedit to the score - I could only make a guess about where the film was edited down a bit, the score edit happens midway through the shot that moves in on the plane while Jim walks to the cockpit. Nice and perfect! Fun to spot all the understated sync points in this almost freeflow-feeling cue. Same with these two. Alone at Home starts later, and a bit in the middle is dialed out and comes back slowly, not really sure what that achieves beside making Jim's surprise at his discovery even more subtle. Empty Swimming Pool's opening was extended by tracking a bit of Alone there. The full (I suppose original) take on LLL Disc 1 - in this form, only the middle bit was used. These two again fit perfectly. So, some things are happening in Pheasant Hunt, like a drumroll in the opening being extended and faded in and out... but it all syncs up and it's not strictly as musical anyway, it'd be very difficult to track all these down, so I just left it all in colour. I chose to include the unreleased take of Suo Gân from the film audio - it then shifts to the edit found in the LLL track 20. I used the rear channels to include a not great sounding version of the unreleased Cadillac intro. The opening of Mrs. Victor and James is dialed out, the point where it reenters is very much noteworthy. Return to the City fits except for the middle section, where the film is longer - in this version I chose to keep that and split the music. The film audio tracks in the middle synth bit of the alternate to fill out the gap. Seeing the Bomb fits fine. The opening was dialed out. Fits fine. Fits fine - I sped up the scrolling part of the credits to make them fit Exultate Justi without needing the additional tracked coda. Interestingly, this alternate Imaginary Plane Battle fits the footage, unlike the film version. The difference is also in the area with the cut. The main difference in the alternate Alone at Home is the lack of choir for the breeze - even more understated! So... I did choose to do the b&w thing here because the first insert is actually the version used in the film. I kept the used middle bit of the original take then transitioned to the alternate end insert. You've already seen The Plane (alternate) isolated by @Chewy not long ago, but why not include it while I'm at it? This take of Cadillac of the Skies is actually shorter than the film and the film version. Here I just took out the shot before the suitcase section to make it fit better, since this take is also too short for the footage. EDIT: Next up: A.I.! Sooner or later. Artificial Intelligence. Oh wow, I haven't thought of A.I. but it makes so much sense! It'd take some time though, I've only seen the movie once and heard the score a couple times, and all the initial discussion of the set was before my time here, I don't even know if there are already some score restlre attempts or not. In short, I haven't studied it enough yet by far that it'd be a simple breezy matter like the making of these 3 for me.
