That dog don't hunt.

They knew that NTTD would be Craig's last Bond. As early as 2017, Craig announced his intention to exist the role. It's, now, five years later. I can't believe that EON hasn't even thought about who will replace Craig.

Lay him to rest. RIP.

I'd rather this than have him end up a sexually fluid teetotaller who sits down with his enemies for a nice chat about the error of their ways, while EON tell us 'in many ways, this is closer to Fleming's Bond than ever before' with a somehow straight face.

Think I saw the other day that the James Norton casting rumour had surfaced again.

I googled James Norton and he looks like his ceiling is the lead in a Jamie Oliver biopic, but not 007.

Michael G. Wilson reveals that younger actors are out of the running

”We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”

But... I thought the whole point of the Casino Royale opening was that he only JUST got his OO status with those two kills! Not that Daniel Craig was *super* young, but they were clearly going for a relatively inexperienced Bond there, and it worked out great!

John David Washington is the man! He's proven that he looks great in fine suits and is able to deliever superb one-liners before he beats up all the bad guys.

JDW is awesome as the protagonist in Tenet which is kind of a James Bond-like spy character so he would probably do a good job but I don't know about an American actor. Richard Madden would be my choice probably.

I think Idris Elba would probably be a good Bond, judging by many of his earlier performances, Charles Miner excluded lol. Now he is too old though as the producers want to cast a Bond who can do multiple films over a 10-12 year time period. It's too bad that he has a similar age to Craig.

I vote Idris Elba. He’s still young enough to do 2-3 films.

If we are going with a black actor, I vote Regé-Jean Page. I am not sure what people's obsession with Elba is. He is way too old for the role.

@Mephariel, agreed on Regé-Jean Page. He’d be an amazing Bond and I thought so immediately upon seeing him in the terrible Bridgerton show where he somehow rose above the material. He’s got that Bond swagger and charm.

But I can’t agree with you about Elba being too old. I’m pretty sure Roger Moore was 41 when he *first* starred as Bond… and let’s just say, Elba is aging much more gracefully than Moore. And his physical chops are without peer. Maybe he couldn’t do five films like Craig did, but I’m sure he could manage three (or even two films, like Dalton did, would make me happy).

I can see him as Bond. Or Duane Henry:

If they keep to a white James Bond, I wouldn't pick any of the current frontrunners (Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddlestone) but I would suggest Tom Ellis:

Either one of these two would be my picks. Final 2, at least.

I wouldn't describe his face as handsome, nor would I describe it as displeasing necessarily though.  It's just a pretty weird face (for a TV star).  Craig was a fairly non-traditional choice at the time, but he was certainly handsome in that ruggedly masculine way.

He isnstarting to look old anyway…

are there no young men out there who look a little older?

i mean they should cast a young person to make as many films as they can… and make one film per year… they really wasted the craig era with those long hiatus between films

Michael G Wilson recently stated that they will be looking for someone in their thirties, the intention doesn't seem to be another reboot (which I guess some might've expected after the end of NTTD) rather for him to already be a fairly experienced agent.

This of course is the opposite approach to the last time, when the late-thirties Craig was cast as a 'rookie' Bond.

All I want is a Bond movie where he just shows up at M's office to get the setup for the adventure, gets some gadgets from Q, goes out and has the adventure.  Then another movie that does the same thing with no explicit reference to the last one.  And then another.

Probably, it is time again for a more comedic approach to the franchise like with Roger Moore.

It doesn't need to be a comedy per se, but I am hoping for a brisker take on the franchise after all these years of digging around character's past relationships and traumata and thus implying depth and complexity that is simply not there, instead of offering nimble entertainment with a discrete amount of sex.

There's surely a middle ground between Moore's goofier excesses and the gloomiest Craig stuff, which I think they should aim for.

After how the last few years have been, the franchise returning to escapist fun action-adventures would be welcome.
