Bellosh 3,418
To be honest, I've never listened to any other Kamen score besides, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, but that movie was one of the first movies I remember seeing in the theaters as a kid. My folks loved Costner, so I grew up with a lot of those films. The overture to this day still gives me goosebumps. bruce marshall 1,315
THE DEAD ZONE is very good but the CD doesn't match the music in the film. That one might be a good prospect for expansion.

Thor 7,494
Hmmm....looks like a boot. I have the old Edel CD that includes about 20 minutes of the Kamen, as well as bits from Copeland's II and Robinson's III. The sound isn't exactly state-of-the-art, but it's a really good album, and an excellent representation of the Kamen score. I've never really bothered to research any other HIGHLANDER releases, as this disc has fulfilled my need. I consider myself a fan of Kamen's, although I only have about 8 albums at the present time. But I've owned some 5-6 more over the years, and obviously heard a great deal more.

As it happens, there is a concurrent thread about this over on FSM at the moment, and as I just said there: "I always had a hard time getting into this score. Felt cold and detached; and with some textures that just went on my nerves. So I sold my CD at some point. Might be due for another evaluation now, though." Thor 7,494
Top 10 Kamens: 1. ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES 2. Band of Brothers 3. The Three Musketeers 4. Highlander 5. The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms (concert work) 6. 101 Dalmatians 7. Event Horizon (with Orbital) 8. Mr. Holland's Opus 9. Don Juan de Marco 10. Open Range That's right. No DIE HARDs or LETHAL WEAPONs. Never cared much for those. His arrangement work for Pink Floyd and Metallica would be high up, but I don't count those. BRAZIL is great, but has too much other music going on.

BRAZIL is great, but has too much other music going on. Great choices. Unlike Jurassic Shark, I really love The Three Musketeers and actually find it much more enjoyable than Robin Hood. I was lucky enough to see Leonard Slatkin conduct The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms when it originally came out (can't remember if it was the premiere, was almost certainly the UK premiere). Just a shame the album is so badly recorded, the level of congestion in the loud parts is pretty bad for a release from a major label. Interesting that Thor doesn't include anything from Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, which I'd probably go with. Good scores, but I don't enjoy them nearly as much as Kamen's other stuff. However, I'd probably try and slip in his Electric Guitar concerto somewhere, the finale in particular is just rollicking fun.

Yes, that's a good piece. The saxophone concerto too -- even though the sax as an instrument is often hit and miss to me. I have this ol' DVD, which is recommended to everyone who doesn't own it: https://www.discogs.com/Michael-Kamen-Featuring-David-Sanborn-Concerto-For-Saxophone/release/11826488 Tom Guernsey

Thor 7,494
Yikes, I completely forgot FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON; probably because it doesn't have a proper score album yet. And I even featured it prominently in my Kamen podcast special years ago. Fantastic score (heck, all of the episodes had fine scores, also those not by Kamen). EDGE OF DARKNESS was there too, another one I forgot in the moment. But anyways, now I've mentioned them. They're both top 10 candidates too. It's probably easier for me to list the Kamens I don't particularly care for.
LongTallJodie 59
HECK YEAH, KAMEN THREAD. There hasn't been an official score release of Highlander outside of the 20 minutes, but there's a whole mess of bootlegs in different configurations, with varying degrees of quality. I'll admit, it's a score that I love but definitely gets kind of repetitive. I still want an official copy of it badly.

GerateWohl 4,357
I liked bis arrangements for Kate Bush and the Eurythmics, but never payed much attention to the scores. I also own that triple CD with excerpts from the three Highlander scores. But I would wish for a CD of the Kamen score including the Queen songs. They are essential to the score, I think. Popular Post Alex 2,835
I got Disney Plus recently and I’ve been watching various films from my childhood. I watched 101 Dalmatians last night, and Michael Kamen’s score is simply outstanding. Possibly one of my favourite ever scores. It’s so well orchestrated with great themes. The opening titles when the trombones join in gives me goosebumps. Jurassic Shark, Tom Guernsey and Yavar Moradi

Alex 2,835
Something random I came across very recently. I was reading Alan Rickman’s diaries and it appears he was a friend of Michael Kamen’s, as he’s mentioned various times. It appears they socialised a lot. I won’t spoil it for anyone who wants to read the diaries but there is an amusing description of Kamen a month before his death. Incidentally, Rickman seems to have also socialised with Gabriel Yared and Patrick Doyle.
