Shouldn't Williams be in both the "Composers" and "Conductors" list? He's clearly credited as composer *and* conductor in the video.

The Good: An exceedingly prestigious honor.

The Bad: I just don't like the reducing of Williams to a means to something other than his own great music.

The Ugly: My attitude and inability to just be happy on this occasion.

JW once again joins some pretty rarified company. It’s great that he continues to be recognized like this. (And it’s also wonderful to see, in his video recordings, that he continues to be in great health.)

Here are all other musicians recognized with this award over the past century:

(those awarded in the 21st century are marked green, others awarded since 1975 are marked yellow)

Definitely a deserved honor and an awesome company, which also includes Brahms, who got the medal in 1877!

So maybe John Williams is now the same size as Brahms or even bigger?

Brahms DID gain a few pounds late in life, but I'm not quite sure JW is there yet.

It was due to all the Christmas cookies courtesy of Anne Sophie.

Sarah Willis may be taking over the Anne-Sophie coaching part.

She's an excellent horn blower...

Though I hope this will be a pure orchestral concert without the amplified Paganini elements.

Amplified?

Refering to the Witches of Eastwick sound engineering on the DGG Vienna CD. I get a heart attack each time the fiddle comes in.

Try the surround track on the Blu-ray if it bothers you. But mainly I was asking because (unlike in the original open air premiere), the violin was of course not amplified at the Vienna concerts.
