Popular Post alawill75 39
I heard rumors of the performance of a new concert work by JW in autumn 2019 in Vienna with percussionist Martin Grubinger. As I understood, this is going to be at the Konzerthaus Vienna with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, but unfortunately NOT conducted by JW. The source of information is reliable, so I'm really confident that the information is correct. Looking forward! 😀 _deleted_, Once, Not Mr. Big and 4 others

Popular Post Doug Adams 494
The potential concerto was first (I think!) mentioned in a book that came out in June of 2017: Be Your Own Manager: A Career Handbook for Classical Musicians. "Today, Martin Grubinger is probably considered one of the biggest stars in classical music, and not just in percussion. Many great composers have written concertos for him, including Friedrich Cerha, Peter Eötvös, and Tan Dan. Rumors have it that John Williams wants to write a concerto for him." Popular Post Miguel Andrade 1,260
Personally, this would be a dream come true. Since I read the sugestion Williams made himself of adapting his music from Images into an essay for percussion that I've wished for this sort of piece. Since a few years back, when Grubinger posted a picture of himself with Williams after a concert in LA, I've felt this might become a reality. crumbs 14,287
They've actually worked together before. Williams called Martin in Vienna and asked him to perform the Catch Me If You Can suite on the last Spielberg/Williams album. That alone speaks volumes. Clearly Williams holds him in very high esteem. Can anyone translate what Martin says here? Will

WilliamsStarShip2282 308
This would be amazing. I hope somebody can find it in print someplace. I will like, since it's nearly April, that schedule should already be released. Although maybe it's a bit early... It would suck if he didn't do anymore films, but keeping going on the concert music still be amazing. He need only write a concerto for English horn and Bass clarinet, and he will have done a serious piece for all major instruments. He never did a guitar concerto, but "Rounds"is good enough. Guitar is a real pain in the ass to right for.... Although, I am curious why he's such a big fan of Grubinger. There are a ton of mallet players out there that can easily do that part. Maybe he was just impressed when he saw him do the Dun concerto? Also, wouldn't it be really neat if he wrote a percussion piece/ concerto for his brother? I've only ever seen him in video's of recording sessions playing the timpani, but still there are plenty of composers who wrote works for timpani.
