Popular Post Jay 37,346
Quote Alexandre Desplat to Reteam with Guillermo del Toro on Netflix Animated Movie ‘Pinocchio’ Alexandre Desplat is reteaming with director Guillermo del Toro on the upcoming Netflix animated film Pinocchio. The composer is set to score and is also composing original songs for the stop motion musical, which marks the del Toro’s animated feature film directorial debut. Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall, Adventure Time) co-wrote the script with the director and Mark Gustafson is co-directing the movie, which is set in Italy during the 1930s and tells the classic tale of the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) is also producing the project with The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico (Final Space), and Exile Entertainment’s Gary Ungar (The Strain). Desplat has previously scored del Toro’s 2017 feature The Shape of Water, for which he received his second Academy Award and also provided the themes for the del Toro-produced Netflix animated series Trollhunters. Pinocchio will premiere in 2021 on Netflix. Desplat’s other recent projects include Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, which is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The composer also recently scored Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch starring Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Timothée Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright, Benicio del Toro, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Kate Winslet, Elisabeth Moss, Willem Dafoe, Christoph Waltz, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. Anderson (who wrote and directed the film) is also producing the project with Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson. Desplat has previously collaborated with Anderson on his last three features, Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Isle of Dogs. Fox Searchlight will release The French Dispatch later this year. https://filmmusicreporter.com/2020/01/08/alexandre-desplat-to-reteam-with-guillermo-del-toro-on-netflix-animated-movie-pinocchio/ Desplat has already revealed he wrote 7-8 SONGS for it: https://www.indiewire.com/2020/05/alexandre-desplat-interview-black-widow-pinocchio-french-dispatch-1202232702/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1488589 Chewy, Not Mr. Big and Bayesian 1 1

Bespin 8,480
I'm 46 yo... soon 47 in few days... I've seen the original Walt Disney, a cartoon TV series, a movie with this italian actor, who I forget his name, but who is really "too much"... Hollywood no longer has an original ideas? Oh the thread's name changed from Silvestri to D'ESS-PLAW. Sorry, I no longer care!
Thor 7,492
Best Pinocchio adaptations are A.I. (yes, I consider it an adaptation of sorts), the Disney movie and this live action television series that I remember watching on the telly in the late 80s or early 90s. I think it was Italian, but I can't find it anywhere by googling. Weird.

Yes, I really enjoyed Bradley in both An Adventure in Space and Time and in "Twice Upon a Time." "Dinosaurs on Space Ship" is far from a classic (thanks Chibnall) but he was fine as the baddie in that too! But still, warm and fatherly isn't really Bradley's vibe. Then again this is the Del Toro Pinocchio so I'm sure he's got a darker take than Disney.

Disco Stu 15,495
Every time I've let myself get excited for a GDT film, I come away disappointed. There's just something about his (metaphorical) voice that doesn't click with me. That said, I'm very much looking forward to Desplat's score. I loved his Shape of Water soundtrack, despite thinking the film was just dreadful. I do love hearing/reading GDT talk about other people's movies.
