Liberty Fanfare played just after the Sousa Monty Python Theme at the big general meeting thing in DC.

A watered down Liberty Fanfare - anyone know what recording it is? Sounds pretty crappy.

Is this OK to post? I was actually wondering if Williams would get played after a few Sousa pieces, but I was hoping for a different piece.

Midway on a different broadcast? Not sure if I'm hearing what's played live or not. Argh, one was live, and one wasn't. ( I think!)

Snippets here.

The bus filled up with all sorts of children from 11yo to 15yo, and some started singing #da-da-da da-da, da-da-da da-da, da-da-da, da da da daaa#. I couldn't help but smile.

If they sang the 5th and 6th "doo-noo-DOO-noo-noo" bars, I hope for their sake that @Andy wasn't on that bus...

Worst theme ever.  Wait a minute, I think I have the wrong thread.

While obviously ripped from the suspense style of the time, it is quite a substantive cue, all things considered.

It was before Johnny's major debut.

A couple of unexpected references to (if not direct encounters with) JW’s music in November 2025’s BBC Music Magazine…

Ok, but what's it got to do with RVW's 5th?

Not strictly a Williams encounter, but I don't know where else to put this.

QI posted (take with the usual grain of salt):

Your strongest music-related memories are formed around age 14.

I was 14 when Jurassic Park was released. I was 15 when slightly less than one year later I discovered John Williams and overnight both U-turned and defined my musical taste. But even before that, before I actively thought about film music, I remember seeing the Jurassic Park soundtrack album in shop windows and feeling tempted to buy it.

*) I wish there were a way to tell the board not to combine two consecutive posts because the first is a reply to a previous post while the other one is a totally unrelated new bit…

Yes I guess that’s a bit confusing. It was an article about music to turn to when times are tough. RVW 5 was one of the examples.

But is the RVW mentioned in the text (outside of the snippet you posted)? Or did they just put it in as an image without further comment?

Here’s the rest of this part of the article… the image is more relevant in context!

Ah! I should revisit that. I have the Haitink cycle since my latest visit to Music & Video Exchange two months ago.

Nice find. I don’t have Haitink’s RVW but might have to look it up. I really like his Shostakovich and Mahler.

Not strictly unexpected, but wandering around a huge and astonishing arboretum (in Singapore) that’s also full of superbly executed animatronic dinosaurs with the Jurassic Park themes (and the main Giacchino theme from the first Jurassic World movie) on a loop isn’t the worst way to spend an afternoon…

Slightly more unexpected was hearing Dance of the Witches played over the speakers at Luna Park for Halloween. Good choice!

Oh yeah, now in Australia…

Tonight, the cellist for the NYP was a guest on SiriusXM movie music show.

Talked alot about JW and how much he loves his music, especially SW, ESB, E.T.

Also cited INTERSTELLAR as among his favorite scores of all-time!

If you have the app you can access the show after it replays

Tell me about it!😍

How do you "chant" the Imperial March?

Yes

Because he had the capacity to sing bom-bom - bom..( see YT link above)

A skinny, pre- adolescent   would have a high- pitch voice

I was going to post that here - then I figured the use of JW's music isn't unexpected, and forgot to post it in some other thread.

At first I wasn't sure where this was going or if I'd just missed what's supposed to be funny about it - but then the actual fun began.

On last sunday evening, the French public television company broadcasted a lengthy interview with well-known comic/actress Muriel Robin filmed in a few places in Paris, which ended with her attending a rehearsal of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for their end of year concert dedicated to John Williams (cf. this topic), and pseudo-conducting an excerpt of Indiana Jones. It's both a bit embarrassing and a bit heartwarming.
