Bond titles were "planned" but now everything is on hold especially now that MGM is on the selling block

Sorry guys

MV

Now that MGM has been sold to Amazon, that's one stumbling block out of the way.

However, I suppose these stumbling blocks:

On 1/6/2021 at 8:00 PM, MattyO said:

1. The new movie delays. No one wants any older soundtracks out before the new movie arrives. Don't ask. This is the case with Top Gun and has been the case in the past (ie Xmen films and Apes films). The studios for some bizarre reason usually do not want any new soundtrack out of something old while the new one is coming out.

2. Capital Records, now UME, and MGM were right in the middle of renegotiating terms on all the Bond soundtracks right when Corona hit so it put the kibosh on things.

remain....

MV do you think the recent MGM purchase would have any affect on moving along those Bond releases??

No idea

Tiny glimmer of hope from MV

The release of more Bond score was indeed put on ice because NTTD was also. Now the question is whether the release will allow LLL to move forward. Hopefully this year, maybe for the Black Friday batch?

2022 if they happen

Really don't understand the (studio's?) logic here - surely you want more interest in Bond collectibles when a Bond film is coming out? Or do they assume that if I bought the TND expansion that I wouldn't buy something NTTD related?

I wouldn't bother understanding the logic behind it. Clearly just some genius in middle management making clueless decisions to justify their job.

Black Friday? Have they already finished all those sets then?

That part is part of the question, the response from MV says 2022 at the earliest.

They aim to have the Black Friday titles finished by Aug/Sep so they can be approved and pressed in time.

Since MGM won't grant the license or share element transfers until after NTTD is out, there was literally no chance one could come out for this Black Friday.  But someone on FSM asked anyway, and MV politely responded there's no chance until 2022 at the earliest

More or less, yes. They don’t want to saturate the brand.

Most corporations operate this way.

TND is the last non-expanded Arnold Bond score, and it's his best...

Are Casino and Quantum complete already? Quantum is one of my favorite Bond scores but one of my least favorite films, so I don't know.

No, they are not.

And TND's already been expanded (just not to complete form)

I thought at least one cue was still unreleased, but I honestly can't remember now. Plus, who knows how many alternates or unused cues might have been recorded? Plus, having the cues only released digitally combined with the cues on the OST into a new main program on physical CD with new liner notes sounds great to me.

Is anything missing from iTunes bonus disc for CR? It seemed fairly comprehensive to me.

There's a little cue or extension after "License: 2 Kills", "African Rundown" has a couple of film inserts and "Blunt Instrument" has a different film ending...otherwise, no. The most substantial unreleased music is the film version of You Know My Name.

Do you know how much of QOS music is unreleased except this rendition of Bond's theme from the end titles which can be ripped without problems? Or album is complete, minus that cue?

The entire score for QUANTUM OF SOLACE - including source music, and Crawl, End Crawl -  is available to listen to, on YouTube.

Is it really? Cause I’ve seen a number of “complete score” bootlegs over the years that were fake.

There's a litte action cue as Bond escapes the bar after meeting with Felix, I think there's a slightl extension/second part to "Bolivian Taxi Ride", the Four Tet end credits piece which was released officially anyway, and Arnold's gunbarrel music. And of course, the later written No Good About Goodbye. There might be a few other very minor cues but they don't come to mind.

Yeah the bar escape sticks out to me from QoS as being unreleased, and the complete prologue music from CR. Not sure why they extended those scores so generously only to still omit cues.

Sad update from MV

I had heard that LLL is struggling with Amazon on the Bond front. Could MV perhaps confirm/debunk/clarify this? I know rights issues can be a royal nightmare.

Everything is off for a variety of reasons.

You know after 20 years of doing this I really should learn to keep my big trap shut and not mention anything until a title is ready to come out. Thank you for reminding me why I should embrace this from here on out.

See yall in the funny papers

MV out!

The Chapter III release and isolated score track take the sting out of never getting a proper Bulk edition of Tomorrow Never Dies, but this was probably the only chance at Moonraker and License to Kill for a long time...

Well that's disappointing news, geez :(

And to think TND must have been really far down the pipeline, given Arnold himself was referring to it back in 2019.

Everything meaning everything Bond or everything other stuff? God, who spends their time making these projects impossible? Such nice people those studio folks are.

Oh sorry, his post was a direct reply to someone asking him about Bond expansions. I'll edit the question into the quote.

The studio execs who think having soundtracks out for old movies when a new movie is imminent is a bad idea are really poor thinkers. Bond has the added wrinkle of MGM going bankrupt again and being sold to Bezos

If these were scores that desperately needed expanded versions like the titles Lukas expanded, I would be crestfallen.

But, I'm not going to slit my wrists over MR considering how little is unreleased.

But, I.do wish these would come out ALREADY, DAMMITT!😠😡😵

I mean sure it's only, what, 12-15 minutes of unreleased music from Moonraker (that we know about anyway)? But when you consider how long the score itself is, that's actually a hefty percentage and it includes a lot of the most Bond-sounding music in the score. Lukas only didn't do it because he couldn't locate the tapes at the time, and he was under a crazy time deadline.

The " missing" music doesn't contain any of the main themes.

The pre- credit is mostly the Bond theme( " Freefall") the flight to Drax us a variation on the main theme. There is a short cue , iirc, when Bond and Holly escape the rocket liftoff fire.

According to Woolston there isn't any unused music.

The ost is a excellent presentation.

The LLL would be cherry on the cake!☺

I'm an Amurican!

Maybe " cherry on the Sundae" is more descriptive.

Icing is an essential ingredient to cake.

Unlike Yavar, I can sleep soundly even  knowing there is unreleased music out there. 😉😊

A cherry is something that just makes something already sweet, a little.bit sweeter.

So, the ost of MOONRAKER- already a tasty and satisfying dessert- would be made a little bit more delicious if expanded!

In spanish we use “cherry on the cake” thats why i asked. Maybe it is a less common english idiom, or the americans have it also due to the mix of cultures.

The American phrase is “cherry on top” referring to the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae.

I can see why this would have made sense for the Broccolis, considering they hired Kamen and Clapton. But glad they did not since Clapton's such a bonehead (70s scandals about race, anti-vaxxing etc).

Kamen would have done miraculous work on his own.....And Babcock and Davis in tow.....

Someone - I think our own Mgkyver!- posted some excellent recreations of the UNRELEASED cues . On YT.

Good stuff!

Hope we get the originals someday.

Political controversies have no bearing on how good or bad Clapton's song would have been.

We forget that celebrities are still people, and are thus entitled to their opinion.
