Happy Birthday to the master!

By way of celebration, I've uploaded a rare, very long interview from 1983 JW conducted with Robert Lurtsema on NPR. I've been sitting on this for awhile; not sure it's been heard since '83!

What a treat, @Falstaft! Thank you so much for providing this to us! Aural manna from heaven on this most special day!

EDIT: At around 7:30 in Part 2 of the interview, JW is asked to explain what work he leaves to the orchestrator in his scores. And JW's response to that question is the most lucid explanation for what an orchestrator does, in an explain-like-I'm-five kind of way (but not the least bit condescending). What a joy it is to now actually know what that role involves.

What a one-sided conversation.

My apologies, I don't get a chance to check into the message board very frequently, and when I do, I don't often stay long.  I wasn't trying to ignore Marian's comment, which was really a fun idea!

No, my apologies, I didn't mean to criticize you at all. It's just interesting watching people converse with themselves.

Nah, I think Shark was just making fun of me quoting my own comment. Which I only did because by the time I'd found the photo, Edmilson's post had pushed mine back.

A true example of longevity, consistency and strong work ethic. And one of the few people in the entertainment industry that you can actually safely look up to. I tip my hat and raise the glass! 😊

Yes, indeed - I raise the glass right now - all the best to the Maestro! Looking forward to the stellar discussion panel in less than two hours. <3

"I can't wait to go back", "I would love to go back" - maybe there is a positive force (pun intended) in the universe that makes his (birthday?) wish come true, although he and us have been incredibly lucky already; just seems like an awful waste of time. (not to him, I'm sure he kept himself busy with music and composing)

Cheers!

To his very good health and the future!

Happy Birthday to the man who wrote the music that came out of my nephew’s mouth at the age of two.

Star Wars, of course.  But two— talk about getting them while they’re young.  That’s how memorable his music is.

This is one of the best Williams talks I heard (the Jeff Bond and André Previn interviews run second). Probably because he was younger and didn't have to answer the same SW and Spielberg questions like the zillions time.

At the age of three, my younger daughter astonished me by coming out with the whole 8 bars of the Raiders A theme from memory. She started with the classics.
