Jay 37,322 Posted February 12, 2021 Share Posted February 12, 2021 If forced to pick only 10 out of the 60 I initially mentioned to get a definitive edition to my liking, my ultimate top 10 would I guess be Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom The Return of the Jedi Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Earth Star Voyager Hook The Fellowship of the Ring The Rise of Skywalker Those hit the sweet spot of needing access to elements fans just don't currently have / needing proper, professional work done to those elements that fans just wouldn't be able to do / and are just goddamn great, classic, amazing, legendary scores*. Definitive editions of these scores would basically just get a ton of playtime for me and make me a very happy film score fan. Many of the other scores I mentioned are in one of these categories: well, we have most of it already from various places, and fans have assembled pretty great albums to listen to for now well I know I like the albums, so I assume I'd like an expansion well, I liked what I heard in the film/show, so I'd probably like it outside of that well, I like most of this composers stuff, so these scores from them I haven't heard yet are probably good too But the 10 I singled out stand taller above the rest for me. * (OK I know ESV isn't a legendary score but I really really really want it and would listen to it a lot) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Usually it's one of two things: 1) Watches movie, buys score 2) Buys score, never watches movie. Usually when I watch a movie for the first time I'm not paying much attention to the score, and I rarely rewatch movies (except kids' movies). These are scores that really benefit from expanded releases, and really the only one I'm pretty satisfied with is Raiders. The SW OT is mostly complete, but the sound quality of course needs significant improvement. Same goes for any official expanded release coming from MM... The only time I've been fine with a fan edit was the awesome SonicAdventure masters of the Harry Potter sessions leaks almost a decade ago.
