Posty delivered today. Do any of you Knowledgeable Harmony Jedi's have a handle on how Johnny wrote this music. It's heavily chromatic but to my ears NOT octatonic...Any clues as to how this works ?

I also don't quite know what to make of it. Maybe this short score can help...

The bass ostinato is made of 2 alternating sets of chromatic clusters (Db - D - Eb - E and G - Ab - A - Bb), so indeed, not octatonic. But the melody is at least partly octatonic, except for the opening flourish (m. 4).

Ohh............Nice find. This IS what it sounds like...A merge of sorts . But he must have had a system rather than pick notes out by ear. I wonder what it was. Thanks very much for this. Was it a transcription ?

Yeah, it's quite wild! He must have had a lot of fun writing this theme. It balances extremely well the jazzy syncopated drive with atonal unpredictability.

I'll buy it either way, but Johnny only scored one episode, and Vol 1 already had that score and bonus tracks from it, so I'd expect this is more credits/bumper stuff, unless there's like, an unused score for another episode somehow

I like the one and a half minute main title a lot, but I listened to the rest of volume 1 just two times. Both times I found the music dramatic, dissonant and unfortunately on its own not very interesting. So, I won't get volume 2.

I'm content with the old GNP Crescendo Irwin Allen box release, which features Williams' score. I don't mind that they were rerecorded cues.

I didn’t grow up with these shows, and haven’t really ever watched them. I slept on the Lost in Space and Land of the Giants sets. 
 

Do I go after these or hope LLL will do and Irwin Allen John Williams Collection ?  IIRC  MV didn’t shoot it down when I asked him if that would be a possibility for a future release.
