tedfud 38
Posty delivered today. Do any of you Knowledgeable Harmony Jedi's have a handle on how Johnny wrote this music. It's heavily chromatic but to my ears NOT octatonic...Any clues as to how this works ? best ed
The Lost Folio 145
I also don't quite know what to make of it. Maybe this short score can help... The bass ostinato is made of 2 alternating sets of chromatic clusters (Db - D - Eb - E and G - Ab - A - Bb), so indeed, not octatonic. But the melody is at least partly octatonic, except for the opening flourish (m. 4).
tedfud 38
Ohh............Nice find. This IS what it sounds like...A merge of sorts . But he must have had a system rather than pick notes out by ear. I wonder what it was. Thanks very much for this. Was it a transcription ? Bizarley It really reminds me of my Late Fathers music. Wish I could pick HIS brains.... best ed
The Lost Folio 145
Yeah, it's quite wild! He must have had a lot of fun writing this theme. It balances extremely well the jazzy syncopated drive with atonal unpredictability. It's a reengraving I made of the 1966 sheet music publication from Hastings. Jay 35,045
I'll buy it either way, but Johnny only scored one episode, and Vol 1 already had that score and bonus tracks from it, so I'd expect this is more credits/bumper stuff, unless there's like, an unused score for another episode somehow Yavar Moradi
GerateWohl 3,679
I like the one and a half minute main title a lot, but I listened to the rest of volume 1 just two times. Both times I found the music dramatic, dissonant and unfortunately on its own not very interesting. So, I won't get volume 2.
Thor 6,727
I'm content with the old GNP Crescendo Irwin Allen box release, which features Williams' score. I don't mind that they were rerecorded cues. JoeinAR and JTWfan77
JoeinAR 1,943
I agree. The show runs every Saturday night/Sunday morning. I always enjoy watching when I can. Its always a treat to hear Johnny's music.

This classic TV series chronicled the time-traveling adventures of two scientists flung into varied pasts and futures via a top-secret, underground government base called Project Tic-Toc. THE TIME TUNNEL was producer Irwin Allen’s favorite series among the ones he produced, and unlike LOST IN SPACE, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA or LAND OF THE GIANTS, it would require the show’s scores to reflect not only the series’ overall sci-fi drama and adventure, but also the varied pasts and presents each episode would visit. Thankfully, a group of talented composers was more than up to this challenge! This second volume collection of original music from THE TIME TUNNEL features stellar work from acclaimed composers Johnny Williams, Leith Stevens, Joseph Mullendore, Paul Sawtell, Robert Drasnin and George Duning, who propel this beloved show’s episodes with captivating orchestral ‘60s era television scoring. Showcased across this deluxe 3-Disc presentation are scores from the episodes “Revenge of the Gods,” “Massacre,” “Reign of Terror,” “Secret Weapon,” “The Death Trap,” and “The Death Merchant” along with additional music cues. Limited to 1000 units, this release is produced by Jeff Bond and Neil S. Bulk, executive produced for 20th Century Studios by Mike Matessino, and digitally edited and mastered from original mono recordings by James Nelson. The exclusive liner notes are by Jeff Bond and the art design is by Mark Banning. This release is dedicated to the late and greatly missed Kevin Burns. His undying passion for all things Irwin Allen made our Irwin Allen soundtrack releases possible, including this one, which he was thrilled to make available to the fans. TRACK LISTING: Disc 1 1. Andy 3,525
I didn’t grow up with these shows, and haven’t really ever watched them. I slept on the Lost in Space and Land of the Giants sets. Do I go after these or hope LLL will do and Irwin Allen John Williams Collection ? IIRC MV didn’t shoot it down when I asked him if that would be a possibility for a future release.
