Williams, of course, is responsible for the iconic scores behind Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, and more. “For me, as a black man and as a black filmmaker, I wanted to feel free to show the influence of my favorite composer, John Williams,” said Stegall. “The idea of using color and different flourishes. These are things that speak directly to our culture. It’s gotta have color, change, harmony, rhythm.”

jojoju2000 20
Just now, Drew said: The more people JW influences, the better. But this particular influence seems somewhat interesting. JW once again has served as a bridge builder between parts of society that have felt left out. His music unites and inspires everyone, no matter race, or gender. Popular Post Thor 7,495
John Singleton, with whom he worked on ROSEWOOD, and Kobe Bryant (not a filmmaker, but a film came out of his JW passion) would be other examples. Williams has worked with several black people over his life - like all the wonderful Mahalia Jackson albums. Jessye Norman. You name it. Terence Blanchard has expressed his admiration for Williams too. He's surprisingly well versed in genres usually associated with black performers, like blues, jazz and Americana. His spirituals from ROSEWOOD are stunning. Nobody believes it's Williams' original pieces when I play them for them. Part of being a film composer is to have a chameolon-like quality. Williams has proved over the years that he can tap into all kinds of ethnic styles. Moreover, his straightforward orchestral music pays no attention to creed or colour - it's universally praised by all people.
