Musical Notation QUIZ

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the first Musical Notation Quiz.

You'll have to guess where these notes are from.

Tell not only what score it is, but also the track. I chose some of my favorite parts from all JW's scores.

You can add more if you want to.

Let's start.

2. Saving Private Ryan, High School Teacher

3. Jurassic Park, Journey to the Island

4. Schindler's List, Immolation

Please tell me there is a prize involved. Rare bootleg? Cash payment?

Anything to keep me from pondering the implications of my sitting down on my

keyboard and hashing out those notes and then recalling vaguely where it is on

the soundtrack, checking real quick with the soundtrack, taking the time to write

down the track name, retrieving my lost password, signing in several times

because of the curse of the messed up log in function and then typing all of

this TWICE. Please tell me there is a higher purpose.

The second score seems to be scored for 4 F Horns, 3 Bb Trumpets, 3 Trombones and Tuba (in this way, it ends with a G major chord and all the other things make sense): I don't know it, but perhaps it is the arrangement of "Quidditch" from the Children Suite from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (that I've never heard!), at least, judging from the writing and metre that are very similar to the "quidditch" passage in "Harry's Wondrous World".

Score-desperately trying to remember where did he hear the first cue...

Yes! Exactly! When I first saw the 3rd one I thought "Robin Hood's Ouverture", but I didn't say that because I thought they were all Williams' and it could be something else... It's a wonderful piece, if I remember correctly it goes on with G F and then the trumpet: Eb D C Bb C and so on...

Please, I want some more cues! It's a nice game!

Congratulations Adam. The prize is our respect and your pride for being a good John Williams fan :)

This next one was difficult to make for me. Sorry for any (possible) mistake.

Family Plot

- Adam, who appreciates the prize of respect but is still gearing for something more tangible

First one could be Hook. Maybe the Banquet.

Second: No Idea, maybe Towering Inferno.

Third one: Star Wars, Jabba's Theme.

Nemesis ;)

I always arrive late, however I agree with Nemesis for the first and the third, ;) and I absolutely don't know the second one.

Score, who would like to be able to find all the old JW soundtracks in shops but hasn't got too much hope.

I'll give it to you, since the part posted was just that theme. ;) (The notation was taken from the "Finale" of TESB, which would've acceptable just as well.)

That was cool Eplicon. Adam is the winner for the moment.

I couldn't guess either chs058's second one. Anyone?

I'll try to make more for tomorrow.

Hint for #2:

it is an older film and can be found on the internet. (the page is even linked in the links section of jwfan.net!)

This is the Fugue-like theme (Preparing the Cage, I think) from Jaws, though the orginal example still isn't making sense to me.
