the_face 0
Hi, I'm a university student in England and occasional poster to this forum. I'm writing my film master's dissertation on the Back to the Future trilogy and would like to get some info on Alan Silvestri, who composed the music for the films. I have hunted high and low and have now learned that I am unable to purchase back issues of most of these magazines listed below. If anyone has any of these lurking in their attic, I would be most grateful of a scanned article (or as many as you have!). I will of course pay you for your trouble or perhaps we can work out some sort of swap. It's really important that I get these articles, purely from an academic reserach standpoint. Please e-mail me at chasrowe2@hotmail.com if you can help in any way. Time is of the essence and I would be extremely thankful. Many thanks in advance. Guest
Why not just try to go to the source and get in touch with Silvestri himself? My friend from college got a hold of Bruce Broughton for a senior lecture (albeit, the mutual connection to the Salvation Army helped too), but I say if my friend got a hold of Broughton, you can do Silvestri, my friend. One thing I learned when I was doing a news article for my media writing class is, "Ask and ye shall receive." People are more than willing to help with major college projects. Granted, when I tried to get a hold of Mel Gibson for my news story, I failed miserably, but hey...how popular is Silvestri compared to Gibson? His scores are rejected and accredited to JW. You really think they'd turn you down? Not likely (unless it's a music school where James Campbell teaches and the associate director of the school won't divulge contact info out respect to the faculty--which is similar to why I didn't talk to Gibson). However, this free encouragement is about all I can help you with. About the only direction I could point you in is Ford Thaxton's. Last I knew (which was a few years ago), his screenname on AIM was Fordat1. Other than that, I don't really know anyone.
Lurker 5
Yes, you can e-mail Ford Thaxton at fordat1@aol.com. I don't know if that will help you or not, but it's worth a try. It's well known that Ford prefers e-mail.Also, I know that Film Score Monthly has many back issues for sale. Check out their web site at Film Score Monthly.com.Neil
Jim Ware 526
I would suggest getting in touch with the Gorfaine-Schwartz agency, who represent Alan Silvestri (and many other composers, including John Williams).Try www.gsamusic.com or writing to them at:The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency, Inc.13245 Riverside Drive, Suite 450Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
