You are not mistaken. Also OMNI put out the complete written score to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, including three unrecorded alternates, one of which Joe Kraemer impressively mocked up and shared online!

Probably same here. Those were great revisits of great scores even though there wasn't much "new" on them.

 

But The Don Is Dead and Take Her, She's Mine were scores I once dismissed (based on film rips), but now I really like them both quite a bit, thanks to the great-sounding new albums. And Morituri even though it only had a minute of additional music over the FSM was almost like hearing a whole new score for me, thanks to the sound improvement. Before it was one of the Goldsmith scores I listened to least often, but now I "get" it, and it's good.

And he did all of these with no additional composers (just orchestrators). It is one of his most insane years of output, for sure... but 1961 was even crazier!

Oops! You're right. Jerry scored only one episode of The Waltons which aired in 1973: S1E17 "The Love Story". The rest (and the new theme, since the pilot telefilm The Homecoming from 1971 didn't include it) were all done in 1972

And, unlike many of the other warmed-over-for-fifteenth-time re-re-re-releases, Shamus is actually a fun groovy addition in the Cleopatra Jones-style of the day.

I decided to group these together even though they were separated by a year between release. They were some of FSM's most popular releases (they even did a fourth volume of music for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. movies which is still available from Screen Archives, but that only featured some re-recordings of Goldsmith cues). Due to that popularity, it's possible that another label might decide to revisit the series if they can work out a deal (but historical MGM stuff is controlled by Rhino and therefore Warner Bros. music), perhaps even putting all the Goldsmith music in proper order: Because FSM didn't know their first volume would be so popular, they concentrated on putting out just the highlights, so some of Goldsmith's cues for the series didn't come out until later volumes. I would probably re-buy if a label was interested in putting all the Goldsmith material back out in complete & chronological form.

Whew! That ended up being a bigger project than I expected, but I hope it's helpful. FSM sure released a lot of Goldsmith over the course of almost a decade and a half -- 32 of their 250 releases!
 

So to sum up it really seems like only the Fox titles released by FSM have been getting revisited by other labels (or are likely to be in the near future). The other stuff is all Paramount or Warner Bros.-controlled and either still in-print/available or difficult to license for a reissue at this point. (Yes, LLL did put out The Swarm early last year from Warner Bros., but that was in the works for years and years, before licensing became more difficult and expensive from the studio.)

No, Moradi weeps because he doesn't know when he's going to manage to fit Soundtrack Spotlight recordings into his schedule for this incredible deluge of Goldsmith releases. (If he'd known what he was in for over the next year, he might not have started this popular new podcast sub-series.... we want to go back to recording regular episodes more, well, regularly!)

 

There are plenty of new Goldsmiths to hope for, still. And the ones that are lost to time like Black Patch could still be re-recorded, and ones that were written but never recorded like Babe and The Kid could receive premiere orchestral recordings funded via Kickstarter or something... the man was just so prolific. I'll be surprised if it's all released any time soon. I'm sure by the end of my lifetime (and I'm 35) there will still be great unreleased Goldsmith scores, even if it's just obscure stuff he wrote for live TV. :)

I had no idea Poltergeist and Outland had gone OOP, damn!

 

It's worth noting that The Prize had 5 extra cues later released on their Poltergiest set; It'd be nice to get a new definitive edition of The Prize with everything in one place, not to mention a new (remastered?) edition of Poltergeist without those cues included there

I mean, FIVE of them were twofers (and I'm not counting pairings with non-Goldsmith scores) and one of them had *THREE* Goldsmith titles, so it's even more impressive than that, really, in terms of quantity of Goldsmith scores... and most of them, especially early on, were premieres!

Not entirely accurate. I was tempted to include mention of the situation in my list above, but I figured it would be too confusing and my post was already overwhelming enough. But I guess I'll explain here:

 

The Prize was actually the very first Jerry Goldsmith score to receive a unique album recording (distinct and different from the film recording) around the time of the film's release, in 1963. Unlike later unique album recordings of Goldsmith scores (Stagecoach, Our Man Flint, In Like Flint, Hour of the Gun, Justine, Patton, Wild Rovers, The Last Run, MacArthur, Capricorn One, Damien: Omen II, and Masada) it did not make up a whole album on its own. I'll quote the FSM product page for their still-available edition of The Prize:

Then later when FSM got to doing a definitive Poltergeist, they discovered a better source for those four cues from the album re-recording...and on that source was an additional re-recorded cue which had been recorded for that original album but never been released before:

So really, the FSM Poltergeist release had only ONE extra cue (and their previous release wasn't missing any cues from the film recording; there was just a cue from the album recording that nobody knew about because it wasn't put on the original album), though it did include four other album recording cues from superior sources.

I mean, sure, it'd be nice to have the five re-recorded cues from the best possible source included with the complete film recording, and maybe the sound could be improved a bit further with new tech, who knows? For now I'm quite happy with the FSM release(s) -- excellent sound to my ears! And for my iTunes, I just deleted the four poorer-sounding album recording cues from the FSM release of The Prize, and imported the five superior-source album recording cues from the FSM release of Poltergeist, as "The Prize Album Recording":

Logan's Run, Gremlins, and Poltergeist were released on CD and digitally by Watertower Records around 2015. They're now OOP on CD, but still available digitally. I guess the Goldsmith ones were just re-releases of the masterings done by FSM, just like North ny Northwest was a re-release of the Intrada remaster.

World premiere release of Jerry Goldsmith score for Burt Reynolds private eye film! Buzz Kulik directs, Barry Beckerman scripts, Columbia Pictures presents, Burt Reynolds stars with  Dyan Cannon, Joe Santos, John Glover, Larry Block, John P. Ryan, opera star George Tozzi plus “Morris the Cat” (an animal shelter rescue feline made famous in 70’s television commercials as well as Robert Altman’s feature The Long Goodbye). Goldsmith had already worked with director Kulik on Warning Shot (1967) starring David Janssen and he followed Shamus with Kulik’s Babe, earning an Emmy Award for his sensitive score. Shamus McCoy is an extremely low-rent private detective who finds himself on a case involving murder, stolen diamonds, doubler crosses, chases (with some fancy stunt work largely performed by Reynolds)… and, of course, romance. Jerry Goldsmith offers the picture just under 26 minutes of original music, following a trend of relatively brief scores he sometimes wrote for pictures as varied as Von Ryan’s Express, Patton, Chinatown, Escape From The Planet Of The Apes and others. Goldsmith launches from the outset with his “Main Title” in easy-going style, featuring light percussion, fender bass, organ and gentle piano on his primary theme. Both lengthy and melodic, Goldsmith illuminates McCoy’s humble beginnings with simplicity and breeze. It’s a tune that recurs several times throughout  the score, each with a guise of its own. Additional charm can be heard as the idea plays throughout both parts of “Getting Acquainted”. Note an especially gentle embellishing figure on harp during the second part. New thematic material opens “Surprise Visit”, featuring guitar, organ, harp, percussion and strings in relaxed manner albeit with forward motion. But everything is soft-spoken. With “Here I Come” and “A Broken Limb”, Goldsmith propels the chase sequences with crisp, driving percussion and left-hand piano rhythms playing underneath zig-zagging upper string figures. Excitement! Spotlight goes to “The Warehouse”, especially where Goldsmith highlights the suspenseful search and discovery of surplus military supplies with eerie, transparent violins sliding in one direction above opposing basses underneath while violas and cellos move about with their own figure. Intrada announces another rare find – the complete score to Jerry Goldsmith's much-sought score to the 1973 Burt Reynolds film Shamus. Long thought lost, what was once lost is now found! Goldsmith took a funky approach, using Reynolds’ relaxed performance as his touchstone, infusing the score with a '70s vibe. Goldsmith's main theme is a droll, jazzy melody, first heard on the piano, that is the ideal musical match for Reynolds’ refreshingly off-hand performance. But the sparse score has moments that burst into action in true Goldsmith fashion.

 

The score was praised in the press, catching the attention of at least two critics hailing his hip, contemporary score, as well as how it added to the entertainment value of the film. Fans would argue that is the case for all of Goldsmith's works. Hume hires McCoy to track down the stolen diamonds, though the client admits that McCoy was his “fifty-third choice” for the assignment. The trail of the gems leads to Felix Montaigne, a former football star with a shady shipping business and a beautiful sister who strikes McCoy’s fancy. After an investigation full of double crosses, violent confrontations and narrow escapes, McCoy finds himself without a client but with a new love in his life.

Good to know @Jay thanks! I'm not someone who has a problem with mono (it can sound absolutely fantastic, like LLL's release of Archer) but I do think it'd be nice for them to put it in the product description, because a lot of people do care about mono vs. stereo.

Personally I prefer being able to line up all the scores by a composer on my shelf in the order they were written.  It's a bummer to me when a score only exists paired with another.

Could they have? Some studios have different rules, and don't usually allow pairings like Fox or Paramount, who are (or at least were) more flexible. Can you think of any examples of Columbia/Sony-owned scores being paired on disc?

 

I suspect these were separate deals on Intrada's part and they weren't able to pair.

In these cases, the older score determines the exact place on the shelf. You really wanna pay for two CD sets instead of just one, just for that?

It's not just for that, it makes each release more special too; each getting their own full front cover, their own booklets, their own listening experience that isn't joined with another if you play the physical CD instead of rips.

 

I'll gladly take either way of course, just stating a preference is all
