So excited!

Did anyone here splurge on the after party? I wonder if attendees will really get the chance to meet Williams and get pictures/autographs. Lucky them if they can!

Fortunately, I had some extra cash saved for exactly that, so I am going to be attending. I won’t try to get an autograph. I am excited for the opportunity to be attending a dinner gala with the guest of honor being the Maestro himself, and that alone is worth it. I will have a program and pen in hand just in case, though.

What if he premiered the Obi-Wan theme at this concert as a surprise encore or something

How about The Fablemans? That should be finished by now, and surely has less strict secrecy policies than Disney/SW stuff.

I was just coming here to ask if that was you he interacted with like that!

Where you the same guy he fist-bumped afterward?

Haha I saw you hold up your fingers!!!  Amazing! That Across the Stars was something else. Wow.

also, did they remove someone who walked up in front of the stage and tried to get his attention? Looked like he was escorted out

Nope, that guy was two seats over from me. I definitely wanna try to get a fist bump myself, though!

Also, how about that prick trying to get his violin signed during the standing ovation? Walked right up to the front of the stage and called out “Williams!” before security took him away and maybe even kicked him out. Williams did a polite and subtle “no”. Cringe.

thats what he did! I couldn’t tell what he was carrying. They were on him quick.

Hope everyone enjoyed the concert! I’m a little bummed he didn’t bring out the Imperial March in Philly.

The food was excellent. The whole gala event was such a joy to experience. The price for the gala dinner was totally worth it; a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was such a joy being with the Maestro this evening. I will never forget this whole evening. It was simply mesmerizing in the best way.

Did you get to talk to Williams at all?

I would have definitely rushed the stage to get my French horn signed.

Hedwig's theme has been slightly revised. The ending (from 02:00:32 in the file shared in Download Links) has been redone. And I believe also in some places the orchestration/smaller stuff (e.g. the part from 01:59:35-01:59:43).

I’d like to say that the Maestro does not look 90 at all, and he conducted the orchestra with such energy, I was like, “Wow!” He really looks great!

He walked pass me; as he walked by, I just said, “Good evening, Maestro.” He gave me a gentle nod, smiled and said, “Good evening; thank you for coming.” Just a brief moment, but worth every penny. I’ll never forget it. He really is a gentlemen. His humble attitude really shows.

how long did Williams stay for? What Time did the dinner end ?

Quote

Williams long ago reached an age where he could have spent his time smiling benevolently through tribute events. Instead, he’s still meeting deadlines and cranking out scores (including for Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, due out next fall). He seemingly had a few weeks of unexpected leisure during the heart of the pandemic, because that’s when he tossed off a new violin concerto. He and Anne-Sophie Mutter have already recorded it (the second movement is out), and on Thursday they gave the New York premiere of this long and uncharacteristically meandering work, which is full of charms and beautiful moments that don’t quite gel. The easy explanation would be that a lifetime of thinking in two-minute cues doesn’t help with the long spans of a concert. Or that a film composer of his gifts needs a cinematic stimulus to do his best work. Both are possible; I prefer to think that he’s written mountains of fine music, but nobody bats 1,000.

He was there for the gala dinner. I left at around 11:30, as I had to get ready to return home the next day. I don’t know if he stayed after I left.

I know I make this complaint a lot, but it really rubs me the wrong way that these reviewers (philly also) have positive things to say.  However, when addressing his film music, they are constitutionally incapable of refraining from mentioning other composers who have come before.  Such influences are part of every damn composers output since at least the time of Bach, yet they always do it to Williams and seemingly mostly just to Williams. Just shut the hell up; it is like they were beat up on the playground by bullies who were blasting SW at the time.

I don't know why anyone bothers to read any of that trash anyway. I honestly can't believe there are people still "reviewing" concerts. First, who the hell are you, a non-musician in any capacity, to tell others the quality of something, and second furthering that point, in the digital age especially the need to have someone tell you if something is good or bad for you to see it is obsolete. You can hear everything for yourself online now. I am also quite positive of you had them listen to a bunch of music by very famous composers, they wouldn't be able to tell which is which anyway.

That isn't to say though non-musicians can't do a great job reviewing something genuinely and wonderfully, such as often happens on JW Fan.

The radio broadcast still says "audio not yet available":

The on-demand audio might be hold back up until the recording of the Concerto is out.

Apparently, that was Csongor, one of the Austrian regulars. He didn't even tell any of us others that he was flying over for this concert. ;) He can be seen on the Vienna Blu-ray whenever the camera is on ASM. (He's often to be found in the company of @MSM, who can also be seen on the Vienna Blu-ray whenever you see Williams's butt).

I wonder if the official audio picked up that cell phone that went off in the middle of one of ASM's solos
