A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) - 2021 20th Anniversary Edition (reissue of 2015 3CD set) from La-La Land Records

Stock music tracks are often not included in end credits, because they don't have to be, and there are stock versions of basically everything.

Not saying it's not JW-conducted, but it's far from case closed :)

He does specifically mention one or two of them in the BTS featurette, so that would at least give credence to the possibility of his involvement. If not then I don't imagine he'd even be aware of their usage in the film.

It's certainly a possibility yep. Although SS could also have mentioned to him that he was going to use those pieces in the film, but not to worry about them.

I've had this quandry with some TV show music which used a mix of composed and stock music - sometimes it's difficult to tell them apart.

@ChewyIs this replacement set or the one with faulty disc 1&3 ?

A version of the 20th edition with fixed discs doesn't exist yet.  The only physical copies of that set currently existing are the ones with the extra music

Faulty discs indeed :D

From a certain point a view, the master that was pressed on disc 2 also seems to be incorrect although the music is the same as the 2015 set.

The last three tracks are different:

  • The Reunion (T9) & Where Dreams Are Born (T10): these tracks have EQ differences (the same differences can be observed on some tracks on disc 3) => They sound brighter on the 2015 set.
  • A.I. Theme (vocal version) (T11): both the 1st generation and album masters were used for the track (I believe to cover some saturation in the vocal performance).
However, the version that was pressed on the 2021 release doesn't use the album master at all. => Consequently, we can hear some of that saturation effect when the vocal performance gets loud (at 0:29 for example).

I wonder if LLL is aware of this and if the new pressed sets will present the correct master for all three discs?

As for replacement discs that are meant to be sent to us in the next weeks, I don't think they announced they'll replace the second disc!

Huh.  That's an interesting development, and an excellent followup question

Did anybody besides me place an order with LLL after the FSM thread with the info about the new music popped up (Jul 13), and before they pulled the product page (later that night)?

Because I did, and it didn't ship right away of course, and I figured the order (which also contained Always and Somewhere In Time) would sit unfulfilled for a month or 2 until they got the fixed sets in.......... But then it shipped on July 27th, and arrived at my house on July 30th!  So do I have the misprinted discs or the fixed discs?

It's gotta be the misprinted, right?  They haven't said that the fixed discs are in yet, have they?  And the product page is still down, which I figured would only return once fixed discs were in...

The same happened to me. And I'm still trying to contact LLL because I ordered the Batman collection with it which was missing from my parcel...

Only one way to find out...

Also, the product page is still down. Nothing comes up if you search for A.I.

My order of both SWIT and AI shipped on the same date as 27th (still in transit) I suppose it's the error disc's set.

My feedback:

17) The Moon Rising/The Biker Hounds (Disc 1) is 7:35.  The flow of the extension cues from disc 3 is superbly integrated ! I must say it makes for a facinating listen as a film version cue. (I dont know  exactly if the mix here synchronises exactly in the film -will have to reconfirm later) The segue back into the orchestra is definetly not smooth. The Original Pressing on Disc 1 is 5:10

                                             ___

06) Rogue City - Jazz Source Cue #1 3:25 (Disc 3) mislabelled as The Biker Hounds (Extension) which it is clearly not.  Cool track on its own though! [NEW]

07) Inside Dr. Know's 4:30 (Disc 3) This is not an alternate  but the film version to the one included on the original disc pressing (which I suppose is an alternate take)

08) Rogue City -Rock Source Cue #2 2:05 (Disc 3) The other mislabelled cue Replicas is kinda atmosphereic /relaxing type. Reminds me of the Total Recall-esque  source cues.[NEW]

09) Helicopter  2:05 (Disc 3)  Source Music #3  or cue? Joseph Williams again? Mislabelled as Finding The Blue Fairy (Alternate) [NEW]

17) A.I. Theme (Vocal Version) 4:16 (Disc 3) As pointed out, its an alternate performance where the humming in the begining is relatively with a different intonation. (And I absolutely love the vibrato in her voice at 0:58 mark- very stirring and moving !) The mix is also different and the vocal is more upfront. The version on Disc 2 first pressing is 4:01

So, if you did get this you are lucky. I'm sure the existing stock is being destroyed and  the new master being used to make the replacements and new stock.

Unfortunately these unique tracks will eventualy leak out there for everyone to see but I think the only way to counter that problem perhaps is to basicaly reinclude these alternates and additional cues in the new pressing /programing as a bonus easter egg, if its not too much trouble for the label and Williams. management. Just my opinion here. I'll definetly buy another copy as a back up-its in my top 5 Williams.

The previous posts are Chinese to me.

Did they corrected some "minor" issues on the new edition, compared to the set we already have?

Track Six of Disc Three is indeed Rouge City Jazz.

Track Seven of Disc Three is NOT an alternate of Inside Dr. Know's, but rather the actual film version, which is included in the original pressing from 2015.

Track Eight is actually the alternate version of Inside Dr. Know's.

Track Nine of Disc Three is indeed Helicopter.

Track 17 of Disc Three is indeed the alternate version of A.I Theme (Vocal Version).

Not with LLL, but I did place my order with a third party seller on the 24th.  They shipped it out a few days later.

If so, its even more perplexing. Track 8 which is 2 minutes is the alternate for Dr Knows? (Scratching me head )

Track 8 is a Rogue City source or an alternate version to Inside Dr. Know's? To my ears sounds closer to the latter (kind of an excerpt of Inside Dr. Know's)

  6. misprint 6 Rouge City (3:35) = Joseph Williams' "Rouge City Jazz"
  7. misprint 7 Inside Dr. Know's (4:30) = correct 7 Inside Dr. Know's (4:30)
  8. misprint 8 Inside Dr. Know's (alternate) (2:05) = a new darker and less comical alternate for a portion of previous track that we never knew existed before
  9. misprint 9 Helicopter (2:01) = Joseph Williams' "Joe's Helicopter Cue"
  10. misprint 10 Replicas (Alternate) (4:02) = correct 8 Replicas (Alternate) (4:02)
  11. misprint 11 Finding the Blue Fairy (Alternate) (6:00) = correct 9 Finding the Blue Fairy (Alternate) (6:00)

For me the new version of the AI Theme Vocal and The Moon Rising/Biker Hounds are the real nuggets for me here. But it's mind boggling to think how many such different versions of cues may have existed in different releases and discarded due to aesthetic choices of the composer and producer. Oh well, only Mr. Matessino knows best.

I'd love to know what he would say about these alternate versions on A.I.

If you can get a copy of the anniversary edition now from anybody who has it in stock, it was made from the incorrect master which have several "bonus tracks" not found on the last release.

If you get a copy when LLL restocks, it is supposed to be the same as the 2015 release with no additional tracks or sound improvements.

Just google around... you should be able to find other stores with stock of the "defective" release, if you truly desire it.

It may not be LLL shipping them at this point.  I got mine from moviemusic.  It's likely they got their batch before the mistake was discovered, and just continued to sell them.  I emailed Peter there personally to ensure that mine was the uncorrected misprint disc, and he confirmed it before I ordered.

So if LLL haven't gone round their resellers asking them to pause sales, then is that a passive indication that perhaps having these in the wild isn't much of a problem for them? I suppose it largely hinges around whether JW is bothered by it.
