WampaRat 1,105
Is it Horner’s Wrath of Kahn after Jerry wasn’t asked back for Star Trek 2? Elliot Goldenthal’s take on Batman? Powell’s venture in the Star Wars universe with Solo: A Star Wars Story? What are some of your favorite franchise scores NOT scored by the original composer of the series? Interestingly, I can't think of any Williams examples (unless you count things like GIDGET GOES TO ROME, which wasn't really a sequel, just part of a series of standalone movies -- and obviously, TV doesn't count). GerateWohl 4,279
Yes Arnold's efforts for Bond are surely worth mentioning. Christopher Young's score for The Fly II is great, too. Ah and there are some excellent Young Indiana Jones Chronicles scores.

crumbs 14,274
I can't think of anything that hasn't already been covered! But the highlights for me are: ALIENS (James Horner) ALIEN 3 (Elliott Goldenthal) SOLO (John Powell) JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (Michael Giacchino) STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN (James Horner) TOMORROW NEVER DIES, CASINO ROYALE (David Arnold) Funnily enough, it's the inverse of this topic that would be easier for me to list (sequel scores that sucked in comparison to the original, of which there is no shortage!) Holko 9,399
Alien people and others: if every movie in the franchise was scored by a different composer, why is the one to score the first automatically branded the franchise composer when they're all on equal footing? Maybe if they all quoted material from the first score and built on it... but they don't. Yavar Moradi and Chen G.

Faleel 5,278
Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Jerry Goldsmith Not comepletely what this thread means, but JG "replaced" the likes of TV series regulars Sandy Courage, Fred Steiner, (aside from a few additional cues) George Duning, and Gerald Fried, in a way. Star Trek III and II by James Horner Star Trek IV by Leonard Rosenman Yeah, I like it, deal with it yo. Star Trek VI by Eidelman Not my favorite Trek score, but the themes themselves and bigger pieces are ace.

Jay 37,042
Are you asking for just scores we like that came later in a franchise (that weren't by the first composer of the franchise), or such scores that we PREFER over the original composer's score? Richard Penna 3,617
Ghostbusters 2 - I've never liked Bernstein's original; Edelman's is more my thing. JPIII - Davis provided a score that the movie didn't deserve (I like the movie, but it's still a rather silly popcorn movie). JW:FK - along with (finally) a good recording, Gia's score has a great gothic tone which works so well, and I also happened to very much like the film. The Mummy Returns - I find the entire score overwhelming, but it's by far the best score that this movie could've had (and I think the movie is really stupid) Ice Age 3 - I find that this score an early example of Powell injecting a mature sound into an animated movie that we'd normally only hear in live action adventure films. Newman got off to a great start, but Powell pushed it up a level. Controversial one: Prometheus. I love this score, far more than anything I've heard from any of the original Alien films. Frizzell did a good job with Resurrection, but there's something about Streitenfeld's themes and the overall tone of the score that I love.
