Bespin 8,475
What is according to you, the best film score of 2004 among this list? The scores of this list won an award for "Best Score", as voted by either one or more of these organizations: The International Film Music Critics Association Award The Online Film Critics Society Award The Los Angeles Film Critics Association Yes, I know it was also the year of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but let's dig deeper... Discuss these choices made by Critics!

Bespin 8,475
I closed the "Other" option, because I want you to chose among the list options, because everyone here would pick Azkaban, so I want maybe your 2nd choice or 3rd choice! ;-) Chewy
Edmilson 7,384
Should've won the Oscar that year. Chen G. and badbu
Jay 37,281
I mean, Azkaban is easily my favorite score of 2004 without question Restricted to the choices you put on the poll, The Incredibles
Bespin 8,475
The very selective choices for this new set of pools was inspired by all the "Winners" of these three organizations : The International Film Music Critics Association Award The Online Film Critics Society Award The Los Angeles Film Critics Association Their "Winners" are interresting and sometimes differs from the "mainstream" awards like the Oscars or the Grammys, by example. So I just want to "expand my mind" (maybe yours too!) about 21st scores and composers for which I'm less familiar with...
Jay 37,281
Notably scores from 2004 not on your poll include Lemony Snicket (Newman) Passion of the Christ (Debney) Spider-man 2 (Elfman) Bourne Supremacy (Powell) Hidalgo (Howard) Van Helsing (Silvestri) Troy (Horner) Alexander (Vangelis) DemonStar and TSMefford

Jurassic Shark 12,024
1. The Terminal 2. The Aviator Remaining options are mediocre. Bespin
Not Mr. Big 4,639
1. POA 2. The Terminal 3. The Village 4. Lemony Snicket 5. Spider-Man 2 6. Van Helsing 7. Hidalgo 8. The Passion of Christ TSMefford and Bespin
Bespin 8,475
Some chose the Terminal, but we rarely see it on the "Last listened score" thread...
Jay 37,281
Thinking that a score is the best from within a specific calendar year does not imply its one of the best, or even your most-listened-to, scores from the history of film music
Popular Post Richard Penna 3,669
The Village, easily. Don't be too quick to assume everyone here would pick PoA just because it's JW. They're two very different scores. Edmilson, Bespin and Chen G.

Bellosh 3,382
The Terminal. Don't really care for the film that much. But the score alone, even without much context to the film, is just beautiful and fun to listen to. One of the few scores I associate absolutely nothing with the film while listening. It's actually in my top 10 JW scores. Bespin
mstrox 6,643
Voted The Incredibles - the score so nice Giacchino wrote it twice. Azkaban is the clear winner. Bespin
Bespin 8,475
Today, I re-listened to The Incredibles and that Captain Sky thing. Currently re-listening The Village...
Bespin 8,475
I voted for The Aviator, it's more my kind of score, even if I love The Terminal too. But lately, must admit I listened to The Aviator much more than The Terminal.
Bespin 8,475
PS, as a reminder, in 2004 the Oscar went to a score no one mentionned... Finding Neverland Jan A. P. Edmilson 7,384
This makes me angry until this day. In 2004 literally EVERY SINGLE ONE of the nominees (Debney's Passion of the Christ, JW's Prisoner of Azkaban, Newman's Lemony Snicket and JNH's The Village) was more worthy of the award than the score that actually won. Thor 7,463
My favourite of 2004 is AZKABAN, but relatively close are CRASH (Mark Isham) and THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST (John Debney). Of the ones listed in the poll, my choice is THE VILLAGE. 2004 was a good year for film music.

It's an amazing score. I don't believe in divine inspiration but it does sometimes seem almost too good for Debney's pen. What a Horner score that would have been! Can't say in retrospect that I don't wish the project had gone to James, though.

Michael Scorefan 4
I voted Incredibles, but I enjoy the other ones listed as well. Azkaban is my overall favorite. A few more favorites from that year are National Treasure, Passion of the Christ, Spider-Man 2, King Arthur, Van Helsing, Bourne Supremacy and Collateral.
