Another "meh" year, although Giacchino's Oscar was well deserved.

There was also James Horner's Avatar (which I both like and dislike equally), Hans Zimmer's Sherlock Holmes and (for those who like it) Nick Hooper's HP6.

Of those options, voted Up.  only heard the two Giacchino score albums in full (and a Prague recording of the Drag Me to Hell theme, which is p. Good).  I’ve never been a fan of any of the MG Treks, but the first is the best of the three.

If I was pickin' the winners I'd have given it to Hisaishi for his Ponyo score (which was a 2009 release in the USA).  I don't especially love any of the scores on the poll list (although I enjoy a few of them) so I didn't vote.

2009 is really a year that doesn't have a lot of film scores I return to often.  It's really just:

LOST Season 5, Star Trek, Up, Land of the Lost, Earth Days, Prep and Landing, Dug's Special Mission, and Partly Cloudy by Michael Giacchino

Avatar by James Horner

Drag Me To Hell by Christopher Young

Battle for Terra by Abel Korzeniowski

And, yea, that's it.

Other notable scores that are popular around here

Angels & Demons, Sherlock Holmes, It's Complicated by Hans Zimmer

Ice Age 3 by John Powell

Fantastic Mr. Fox, New Moon, Cheri, Julie & Julia by Alexandre Desplat

Terminator 4, , Taking Woodstock, Notorious by Danny Elfman

A Christmas Carol, GI Joe, Night at the Museum 2 by Alan Silvestri

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by Nicholas Hooper

Incidentally, JWFan previously discussed the best scores of 2009, here:

Up was a broken clock being correct twice a day, or the blind pig 🐖. It is very good, But Avatar is on another level, one that Giacchino will never achieve.

Avatar might have the best unreleased cue by Horner: Quaritch Down. It plays during the final battle. Don't know why Horner left a cue so good out of the OST. Maybe it should've replaced the boring Leona Lewis song.

Because the whole score is like 2 1/2 hours long - the OST was always going to be a LotR-style highlight reel.

Altough I'm currently not a Giacchino fan, I must admit his score for Up was "Up" to the expectations.

I would call that Leona Lewis song many things but boring is not one of them.

I believe the Deluxe Edition of the score plus Quaritch Down is the best way to listen to the score. The recording sessions are very tiresome to get through.

Maybe it wasn't the right adjective, but I'm still not a fan of Horner's end titles songs, My Heart will Go On Included.

I shamelessly love these songs. Dreams to Dream? Whatever You Imagine? LET'S GET DOWN

My favourite of 2009 is AVATAR.

Of the poll options, A SINGLE MAN.

For a second I was wondering how it is possible that we both picked the same score, because for any reason, that I don't understand, we usually don't. But then, Avatar. So, here we are again. ;)

Shout-out to Where The Wild Things Are by Carter Burwell :)

the score was fine, although that really should have been released on album integrated with the songs - the whole is much better than each individual part, imo
