Seeing Crouching Tiger, Hero, and House of Flying Daggers in the cinema were three of my favorite theatrical experiences of the 2000s.


I dunno why I never listened to their score albums.  I should rectify that.

Hero is a good movie with a great score. Tan Dun does better work in Hero than he did for Crouching Tiger. Memoirs is a bad movie with a great score. I think it is another example of JW being inspired by something other than the film itself, leading to an amazing score. In this case, I imagine it was his love of the book that inspired his score.

Crouching Tiger is a very good movie and Geisha is not. It does win in the score category though. It needs to be said there is nothing wrong with Tan Dun's work.
