Popular Post Jay 37,287
Here is Giacchino's theme Nami Melumad is scoring the individual episodes: http://filmmusicreporter.com/2020/10/20/nami-melumad-to-score-nickelodeons-star-trek-prodigy/ Here's a quote from Michael: Quote “I am excited that I had the opportunity to write the main theme for Kevin and Dan’s latest project, and as always am thrilled to be a part of the Star Trek family,” said Michael Giacchino. “I’m especially looking forward to everyone hearing the incredible work of composer Nami Melumad, who will take the reins of scoring the episodes. Not only is she extremely talented, she is a true Star Trek fan.” https://thenewsmotion.com/prodigy-reveals-opening-title-sequence-and-first-look-at-villains/ Cerebral Cortex, Yavar Moradi and TSMefford

Jay 37,287
Just gave it a few listens. It's a pretty good theme. I wonder if it will only be used for the main titles each week, or if it will be worked into the underscore. I like very much how The Orville composers work Broughton's theme into their scores. But in TNG and Voyager, did the individual episodes ever work Jerry's theme into their scores? Yavar Moradi
Popular Post Yavar Moradi 2,590
Yes, they did. On TNG it was much more common during the first couple seasons before the music got Bermanized (he didn't like recognizable themes). You can go through FSM's online liner notes for their amazing Ron Jones box here, and look at the tracklistings episode by episode to see just how often he used the Goldsmith theme -- just going through his season 1 scores I see he used it in eight out of eleven episode scores he wrote (often more than once in a single episode score): https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/notes/box05_disc01.html For season two he used the theme in six out of ten episode scores he wrote: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/notes/box05_disc05.html On Voyager I think the Goldsmith theme was incorporated less often into the episode underscore (alas!) but it was definitely used in the pilot score at the very least -- Track 35 of Disc 4 on this set is one of the most prominent examples (inexplicably omitted from the original GNP Crescendo album of the "Caretaker" score): https://lalalandrecords.com/star-trek-50th-anniversary-collection-musical-rarities-from-across-the-star-trek-universe-limited-edtion-4-cd-set/ I see a couple end-of-episode cues on their Voyager Vol. 1 set use it too: https://lalalandrecords.com/star-trek-voyager-collection-limited-edition-4-cd-set/ Yavar karelm, MrJosh, Cerebral Cortex and 1 other 3
Edmilson 7,392
A Star Trek show for children is a great idea. It's an awesome way to introduce the franchise to kids, who may not be eager to watch shows that their parents or grandparents used to like. And the older fans are getting older and more uninterested on the franchise as the years pass. I mean, Paramount owns both Star Trek and Nickelodeon... It's astounishing they took this long to unite the two brands. Yavar Moradi
Jay 37,287
I doubt I'll see the show, but I'm excited for the score. American Pickle was good, and Medal of Honor was GREAT, so this has a lot of potential. Yavar Moradi
SilverTrumpet 638
Nami freaking knocked it out of the park with Medal of Honor, so I hope this is just as good. TSMefford and Yavar Moradi
Popular Post TSMefford 1,509
Damn. Not really loving this for some reason. Might need a few listens. There's parts I like, and bits I really don't like. Certainly not better than the film trilogy theme, which I was taken with right away. Popular Post Mephariel 451
It sounds too...stale. Like a reject version of the film version. Bofur01, TSMefford and Bayesian
Drawgoon 100
It doesn't sound like he approached this one with much enthusiasm. But I can't help but think that his involvement here was to help Melumad get (and keep) the gig. These Giacchino/Melumad collaborations remind me a great deal of how Lorne Balfe's career kicked off with team Zimmer. Docteur Qui 1,544
Don't care for this much, except the ending part starting from 1:05. I still think the best Star Trek theme Giacchino ever wrote was the main theme from "Secret Weapons Over Normandy". Optimistic to the max, appropriately Williams-y/Goldsmith-y. Not faux-epic like his eventual, disappointing Trek '09 one. Tom Guernsey
Ollie 1,059
It’s almost as if the execs at Paramount asked him to write a theme similar to bland ones the had for Picard, Discovery etc etc. I enjoy it more than those other themes but it seems to follow a trend. Almost feels like Rick Berman is still in charge.

TSMefford 1,509
I listened to this theme the other day and decided I was far far too harsh on it initially. It's quite nice.
Bayesian 1,359
The first 27 1/2 seconds ain’t bad—then it instantly goes to shit and mostly stays that way. Jay 37,287
Gave this theme track another listen today, I still like it. Things only pick up on "Have a Nice Fight". But yeah.. the main theme is okay, but nothing special.
