QuartalHarmony 534 Posted July 31, 2022 Share Posted July 31, 2022 I’m sure I remember an interview with ?JW where he said it was Previn’s idea and encouragement that gave the idea legs. An additional reason from the orchestra’s point of view that I’m sure I read somewhere is that the late 70s were economically quite bleak in the UK and the LSO was, like many other institutions, struggling financially. Film scoring was quick and easy money compared to home concerts or touring. The LSO was/is unusually good at sight-reading for a non-studio orchestra so was up to the task.
