At least I remember reading that they skipped that first session talking about the score in general and that Rian Johnson presented the first cut, like described in the video, to Williams with temp tracks of his old material, created by his sound editor.

And I remember reading somewhere that after that Rian Johnson particularly let John Williams record the score in advance and wanted to edit the movie after the score.

What I know is that Rian was present in much of the sessions, there's pics of him with Williams at the recording stage on RJ's social media. So yeah, he followed closely the scoring process.

 

And it's not like he let JW free to do whatever he wanted. He asked for a lot of revisions in at least two important scenes: the opening battle and the Luke vs Kylo at the end.

And remember that JW recorded The Long Goodbye theme on the piano himself and said something to Rian along the lines of "I do this only for you, Rian".
