Sequencing Bond

This may be a stupid question, but are the only complete releases the ones discussed in this thread? Are there any that maybe no one had questions about?

In short, which scores have had complete releases or exist SFX-free (except for maybe a gunshot in the Gun Barrel) bootlegs or anything?

These do have the gunbarrel:

Goldfinger

Thunderball

You Only Live Twice

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Diamonds are Forever

Live and Let Die

For Your Eyes Only

The Living Daylights

Licence to Kill

Tomorrow Never Dies

Die Another Day

meaning that these dont:

Dr. No

From Russia With Love

The Man with the Golden Gun

The Spy Who Loved Me

Moonraker

Octopussy

A View to a Kill

GoldenEye

The World is Not Enough

I'm thinking about seeking out some Bond scores to buy, a few were kind enough to hook me up with a couple, and I want to get some more. But with all this talk of editing and assembling complete scores (which I love), I'm thinking it'd be a waste of money to go out and buy them. Are there any that are complete releases right off the bat that I can go out an purchase?

For starters...

You Only Live Twice - a classic score, that belongs in every soundtrack collection

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - ditto

Diamonds are Forever - while not as "classic" as the above two, it's still great, a must-have

The above three albums are all nearly complete, but out of sequence.

If you like them...

From Russia With Love - a classic also, but the album is disappointingly short

Goldfinger - also a classic, and the album is pretty good (it can be programmed into order - no editing required)

Thunderball - a superb and underrated score, the album is nearly complete

Moonraker - again this is superb & underrated, but the album is absurdly short

And then...

The Living Daylights - very good score, very good album

Live and Let Die - some hate it, I love it. Album is very well put together.

The Man with the Golden Gun - a decent score, quite fun, though the album is very short

Octopussy - probably the least interesting Barry-Bond score, but still worth checking out

A View to a Kill - very good action themes, and a nice love theme. A solid score.

Licence to Kill - IMO this is very underrated as a score, but the album doesn't do it justice

IMO that's all the essentials.

Hi back again. I have just been having fun editing Thunderball into the correct sequence (as listed by IndySolo on page 1). However, while i know the two Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang tracks are surplus to requirements (I have put them at the end as bonus material) I have also ended up with 007 (track 11 from the original CD) as a spare track. Is this correct? Is it really not used anywhere in the film and if not does anybody have any idea where it should have gone?

thanks in anticipation

007 from the original CD is not used anywere in the film, not was it ment too, I'm sure. It's purely an album track.

It was (I believe) recorded because none of the underwater battle music was going to be on the original CD, so they wanted to represent it with something.

After seeing the film, I say TSWLM rerecording is better than the music featured in the actual film.

What's in the film is actually rather cheesy (Monty Norman ghostwriting?) - the Bond '77 variations are a good example, Hamlisch went way OTT with that - and the guitar riff is mixed in too low. And the film version of Ride To Atlantis is okay, but inferior to the album version. Liked the use of the Bond theme throughout, that was a plus.

Miles - who's pretty damn pleased the Yanks got better Bond UE sets than the rest of the world. ;)

I'm pleased I waited, so I can import them - it's actually cheaper than buying the full set in R2! :D

I don't agree, many of the re-recorded tracks feel padded to me, especially the big Supertanker cue, which is basically the same 90 seconds of music looped 3 times.

You might have a point, but the orchestra sounds better on the album. In the film, it sounds rather... Superman II-ish.

Miles - who actually rather enjoyed "The Tanker."

Possibly - the thing that confused me, is that all the other tracks are in the order (apart from the bonus tracks being separate from the album tracks) - all the album tracks are in order, all the bonus tracks are in order. I'd guess (judging by its placement on the album), that 'Running to the Elevator' is an unused cue from the end of the film (the house in Venice), which I hear was cut down quite heavily in post-production.

Casino Royale is alright on the CD. It's got some beautiful themes, but sometimes the action music feels empty.

But once you see the movie, even the action music fits perfectly, and seems to become more alive and creative and interesting.

I disagree, I think the action cues were the worst part of the score (in the film) - very intrusive and noisy.

See, I expected it to be, but, dare I use the cliched compliment: The music was heart pounding and got my pulse racing. I was really surprised at how well done the action sequences were. We see them so often it's rare for any to actually get us excited nowadays. They were just...totally different from the style we're used to seeing, I think.

I know I've asked similar questions in this thread before, but as I'm sifting through this thread, trying to straighten out all that's been discussed, I'm trying to decide what scores to look around to buy, and which I should hold off on because there is unreleased music available online or whatever.

For instance, Tomorrow Never Dies would be pointless to buy, because a complete or expanded score is available elsewhere, correct?

So which of the Bond scores have been released that DON'T have any extra tracks floating around out there. They don't have to be complete releases, I just don't want to waste money on a score and need to find bonus tracks online and re-burn the disc.

EDIT: I'm not sure if this is relevant, or if it's already been known, but there are now two Die Another Day tracks on Arnold's website. I don't know if Kiss of Life was already released, since I'm a total virgin when it comes to various score releases for Bond movies.

Any expanded TND would've been compiled from the 001 edition of the CD and the DVD's isolated music track - the CD is used for the cues that were edited in the film, like "White Knight." I don't know if an expanded edition of TND is available online or not, but compiling your own is a piece of cake with those two sources.

So which of the Bond scores have been released that DON'T have any extra tracks floating around out there.  They don't have to be complete releases, I just don't want to waste money on a score and need to find bonus tracks online and re-burn the disc.

Aside from a few DVD rips of a select few cues from the older films (a few of which have SFX anyway), the only bonus tracks online that I know of are from the David Arnold scores - two cues from both TWINE and DAD are on David Arnold's website (as you later mention), and the complete CR is on iTunes.

Yeah, that's been online for a while. Of course, there's a 2-CD bootleg of DAD floating around in the ether that contains that track and the rest of the complete score. It's actually not very hard to find either - definently one of the more common expanded releases you're likely to find.

BMP Covers: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=38POICR7

I havent made front cover, i used the OST one since it has right titles (original motion... and not music from) and its the poster...

I made 3 versions of the back cover, for people that have the Trailer music as the 1st track (me), last track, or havent included it.

Trailer track 21 of disc OO2 <- ;)

CasinoRoyaleB.jpg

Trailer track 1 of disc OO1

CasinoRoyaleC.jpg

No trailer track

CasinoRoyaleA.jpg

They are not elaborated as much as the superman ones, i did them fast when i had a little spare time

Thanks for mark for posting the tracklist here :|

Hey hey hey, look what I made today! TSWLM FV Tracks:

The Pyramids (Film Version)

Using the soundtrack plus a DVD-rip from the new UE (Thanks MGM/Fox!), I have pieced together something which is more or less the film version. I say that because I had to fade out the last bit of the OST Pyramids before the Eastern Lights intro could be heard. Also, the first 30 or so seconds have dialouge, until the announcer says something about nobody seeing the Pyramids and not gasping in awe. Then it reverts to score. Also adds the last 20 seconds unheard on the CD, which has some SFX but hopefully not enough to annoy you.

Conclusion (Film Version)

Again using both established sources, I have put in the short cues when Jaws bites the lock open and when he kills Fekkesh (which has some dialouge). It actually works pretty well, SFX aside.

PM me if you want them. Enjoy!
