Sequencing Bond

I long had License to Kill in my number one spot of worst Bond song ever. I can't stand it.

The only reason it got bumped to number two is because Die Another Day came out... :wave:

Oh I'd say that Tina Turner's Goldeneye, Sheryl Crowe's TND, and Casino Royale's title songs belong up there with the worst. TWINE is close to joining them.

I'm suprised that Goldeneye turned out so bland, didn't Bono co-write it?

Goldeneye is another song that sounds like they were attempting to do a Bond song, but it didn't really work.

Agreed. They tried to make it too "Bond", and forgetting about originality.

- Rob, who likes "You Know My Name", especially in the film

Yes but the same can be said about Surrender and The World Is Not Enough, and both came out a lot better.

I'd say there's quite a bit of originality in those songs. "Surrender" is a near-perfect Bond song - the only complaint I have is that it has one volume - "SUPERSUPERSUPERLOUD!" - but apart from that it's great. "The World is Not Enough" as a composition is very good, but I don't like the voice.

I'm a bit confused here. Somebody posted this at FSM:
It's a slightly incorrect tracklisting on David Arnold's website, I'm afraid.

I saw the film today again and noticed that "Solange" does in fact come exactly between "CCTV" and "Bedside Computer" (from the iTunes extended version).

If there's another discrepancy I don't know or did not notice.

But somehow I think "The Tell" also appears later as in this list but I'm not sure yet.

So, the complete tracklist, for now, should go like this:

* Licence: 2 Kills

* You Know My Name (Unreleased Film Version)

* Reveal Le Chiffre

* Mongoose Vs Snake

* Bombers Away

* African Rundown

* Nothing Sinister

* Push Them Overboard

* Unauthorised Access

* Blunt Instrument

* CCTV

* Solange

* Bedside Computer

* Trip Aces

* Miami International

* Beep Beep Beep Bang

* I’m The Money

* Aston Montenegro

* Dinner Jackets

* The Tell

* The Inhaler

* Stairwell Fight

* Vesper

* Bond Loses It All

* Brother From Langley

* Dirty Martini

* Bond Wins It All

* The End Of An Aston Martin

* Prelude To A Beating

* The Bad Die Young

* Coming Around

* I’m Yours

* City Of Lovers

* The Switch

* Fall Of A House In Venice

* Running To The Elevator

* Death Of Vesper

* The Bitch Is Dead

* The Name’s Bond… James Bond

* You Know My Name (Unreleased & Abridged Film Version)

So anybody saw the film twenty times and has got a definitive track list?

So, has this been cleared up yet?

Which is the correct cronological order?

[EDIT]

I just checked it myself.

Solange should indeed be placed between CCTV and Bedside Computer. But The Tell is in the correct place.

So, let me ask: I have the OST CD. Are the additional tracks available through iTunes worth downloading? It looks as if you have to download the entire digital album to get those; you can't just get those tracks by themseleves.

FYI, the price of the full album on iTunes is cheaper than downloading 13 individual tracks.

I don't think there's anything particularly memorable or engaging in the extra tracks, personally. :|

I like it for the sake of having all the music from the movie. A few of the tracks were useful to me when I was doing my re-edit of Never Say Never Again.

My favorites are Licence:2 Kills, Beep Beep Beep Bang, and I'm Yours.

They are good, and they are worth adding, but....they're not worth BUYING, if you know what I mean. They're so short. I really like Bombers Away, and it serves a better beginning to African Rundown, but is it worth 99 cents for a 30 second blip? Meh.

That is basically what I was wondering: are they worth buying the entire album again in order to have? I'll have to think on that, then. Thanks.

I've updated them as such:

A View to a Kill

2 - 1 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 11 - 9 - 10 - 8 - 12 - 7 - 13 - 14 - 15

The Man with the Golden Gun

I'm not 100% sure about the placement of all the Silicon Valley cues. There's quite a bit of unused music, but the track titles give a fair idea of where it should go. It's basically just 12 and 7 I'm not sure about. They might be the other way round. Next time I suffer through the film I'll confirm this. :)

Anybody brave enough to try to sequence DR. NO?

;)

0117.jpg

Note: None of the tracks on the cd sounds exactly like the music in the film. Some of them are edited, some are different recordings and most of them aren't available on the cd in any form;

You always have to fade out the James Bond Theme;

I ripped all the cues, but some are more or less just noise (The engines are burning) or are badly interrupted by dialogue (One million dollars, Mr. Bond).

1. Gunbarrel / Main Titles (3:00)

Gunbarrel [DVD-Rip], James Bond Theme [DVD-Rip] (different Version than on the cd), Bongos [DVD-Rip] (2:08)

Kingston Calypso [Track 2] (0:22-0:52, 1:17-1:35, (fade out)1:52-1:57)

2. Death of Trueblood / London by Night (0:37)

[DVD-Rip]

3. Bond, James Bond (0:19)

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (0:00-0:19)

4. Just as things were getting interesting

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (1:34-1:40, 1:17-1:20, 1:17-1:20, 1:20-1:32, 1:20-1:41)

5. Coming home (0:40)

[DVD-Rip]

6. At the Airport (0:53)

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (0:00-0:53)

7. Leiter and Quarrel (0:19)

[DVD-Rip]

8. Jones (1:04)

[DVD-Rip]

9. Kingston Calypso (2:31)

Kingston Calypso [Track 12]

actually it's not used in the film, but it's more similar to the instrumental piece heard when Bond meets Dent and Potter (which isn't loud enough to be ripped and is interrupted by the dialogue several times) than the Main Titles' 'Kingston Calypso'.

10. Under the Mango Tree (1:02)/(2:44)

You can rip this but there's also a motorboat sound and dialogue on the soundtrack.

If you want pure music take Track 14 which is not the music heard in the film but the only Version of the song on the cd to feature a male singer.

11. Bond meets Leiter (1:03)

[DVD-Rip]

12. Jump up

Jump up [Track 4]

13. Under the Mango Tree / Dance (2:13)

A fast instrumental dance version of the song and another dance song is played when Bond talks to the 'Freelance'. You can rip ip, but it's full of dialogue and the music is just heard in the backround.

[DVD-Rip]

14. Assassination attempt (0:20)

[DVD-Rip]

15. Dent and Tarantula (0:33)

[DVD-Rip]

16. Bond enters the hotel (0:39)

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (0:00-0:39)

17. Death of the tarantula (1:17)

[bond Back in Action]

18. Magenta Drive 239 (0:23)

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (0:00-0:23)

19. Yes, yes, come in

James Bond Theme [Track 1] (0:00-0:19)

20. Under the Mango Tree (2:25)

Under the Mango Tree [Track 6] - Not the version heard in the film, but similar to it

21. The Island Speaks (3:23)

The Island Speaks [Track 13] - Not exactly the same version but very similar

22. Crab Key (0:34)

[DVD-Rip]

23. Under the Mango Tree (Honey and Bond singing) (0:56)

[DVD-Rip]

24. Take some cover! (1:00)

[DVD-Rip]

25. The guards / Killing the guard (2:33)

[DVD-Rip]

[bond Back in Action]

26. Dr. No visits the room (0:45)

[DVD-Rip]

27. One million dollars, Mr. Bond (1:16)

[DVD-Rip]

28. Death of Dr. No (0:57)

[bond back in Action]

29. The engines are burning (0:15)

[DVD-Rip]

30. Searching for Honey (0:47)

[DVD-Rip]

31. Arrival of the marines / Under the Mango Tree (1:19)

[DVD-Rip]

32. James Bond Theme (1:48)

James Bond Theme [Track 1] - actually it's (0:00-0:06,1:34-1:44)

---

NOT IN THE FILM

33. Jamaican Rock (2:05)

[Track 3]

34. Audio Bongo (1:33)

[Track 5]

35. Twisting with James (3:12)

[Track 7]

36. Jamaica Jazz (1:08)

[Track 8]

37. Under The Mango Tree (2:46)

[Track 9]

[Track 10]

39. Dr. No's Fantasy (1:43)

[Track 11]

40. The Boy's Chase (1:34)

[Track 15]

41. Dr. No's Theme (2:02)

[Track 16]

42. James Bond Theme (2:24)

[Track 17]

43. Love at Last (1:53)

[Track 18]

TOTAL: 57:55

In For Your Eyes Only, the music from Track 13, between 0:49 and 1:45 were not meant to go where Neil put them - it is, my sources tell me, either an alternate take of "Run Them Down" or unused music for after the main title. Not 100% certain about that though.

If one would like to place it in the film, it starts on the shot of Bond in the helicopter after his POV of the priest giving him the blessing. It kinda works, but kinda not.

It's alternate that was dropped when the acknowledgements had to be shifted within the cue.

I was attempting to redo my Living Daylights CD to match this order, and noticed an error.

"Approaching Kara" should indeed be cut in half at the 1:24 mark, but the second half is not the piece that plays as Kara retrieves her Violin. Try listening to it with the DVD on, they don't match at all.

The second half of "Approaching Kara" is, in fact, the cue "Arrival in Vienna". My CD burner, which accesses some sort of internet CD database even recognized this title, which isn't on the CD packaging. It called that track "Approaching Kara/Arrival in Vienna". Try matching this music on the DVD as Bond and Kara get off the truck by the ferris wheel and then ride the carriage through Schonbrunn, and she tells him her cello is a Stradivarius. It matches perfectly.

I still left the track "Into Vienna" in the same place, to represent the cue, not on the album, where Bond and Kara kiss on the ferris wheel.

So, the order should be:

13. Exercise at Gibraltar

1. The Living Daylights - Main Title

3. The Sniper Was A Woman

6. Koskov Escapes

7. Where Has Everybody Gone?

2. Necros Attacks

14a. Approaching Kara (0:00-1:20)

5. Kara Meets Bond

4. Ice Chase

14b. Arrival in Vienna (Approaching Kara 1:20-End)

8. Into Vienna (alternate)

15. Murder at the Fair

16. "Assassin" and Drugged

17. Airbase Jailbreak

10. Mujahadin and Opium

18. Afghanistan Plan

9. Hercules Takes Off

11. Inflight Fight

19. Air Bond

20. Final Confrontation

12. If There Was A Man

21. Alternate End Titles

Three corrections/suggestions to The Living Daylights list:

"Where Has Everybody Gone?" should go before "Necros Attacks", since there is no appearance of it where the liner notes suggested.

The second half (1:20-End) of "Approaching Kara" is meant to go after "Bond Meets Kara" - it is the music from the scene where Kara goes back to fetch her cello.

"Into Vienna" is an alternate, and since the film version is unreleased, should probably go in its place, between tracks 4 and 15.

In other words, the list should go:

13. Exercise at Gibraltar

1. The Living Daylights - Main Title

3. The Sniper Was A Woman

6. Koskov Escapes

7. Where Has Everybody Gone?

2. Necros Attacks

14a. Kara Is Arrested (Approaching Kara 0:00-1:20)

5. Kara Meets Bond

14b. Retrieving the Cello (Approaching Kara 1:20-End)

4. Ice Chase

8. Into Vienna (alternate)

15. Murder at the Fair

16. "Assassin" and Drugged

17. Airbase Jailbreak

10. Mujahadin and Opium

18. Afghanistan Plan

9. Hercules Takes Off

11. Inflight Fight

19. Air Bond

20. Final Confrontation

12. If There Was A Man

21. Alternate End Titles

'Into Vienna' is simply an instrumental version of the 'If There Was a Man' song, which was produced for soundtrack and single purposes, it was never meant to appear in the movie. It was named like this to make a connection with a scene in the movie, whereas the original wasn't available anyway.

Regarding the chello music, rob is not far from the truth, as the orchestral sweeteners scattered thoroghout the score have been edited down from the two instrumental versions of the song. There are short cues mixed out from Arrival to Vienna appearing when Kara fetches the chello and later on the ferris wheel, while Bond Meets Kara is reused during their conversation in Afghanistan (the one about a horse's arse).

So the second half really is 'arrival in Vienna' and not 'retrieving the cello'?

Well, if you insist on giving titles instead of the good old fashioned reel format. That cue is meant to represent Arrival in Vienna, but its edited form is also used for the chello retrieval and the ferris wheel scene the same way Inflight Flight is tracked into the kitchen fight sequence. TLD has about 15 minutes of tracked music.

Some version of the second half of "Approaching Kara" may, indeed, be used in the cello scene, but it's considerably altered and only a fraction of the length. However the cue that plays during the "Arrival in Vienna" scene is absolutely identical to the piece on the album, sounding exactly the same and of exactly the same length. That's why I switched it to there. The piece may have been tracked into the cello and ferris wheel scenes, but it seems clear that this is where Barry intended it to go.

Yeah, that's what I said, just twisting the words a bit too much. :(

I wasn't trying to twist your words, only to answer Fommes's question as clearly as possible. I was shocked myself to see that the music matched up to that scene, I never realized it was on the CD.

Wow, I can't imagine a more kick ass thread (well, except "All Bond soundtracks to be released complete, tomorrow").

Serious kudos needs to go to Neil, Rob and the rest. Good on you lads. :P

This is kind of cheeky for my first post, but can someone PM me with info about any unreleased music like tracks they've taken from DVD's and so on? I own most of the CD's (the ones I could eBay for cheap :P), but really want more complete CD's, especially my favourites, Octopussy and Golden Gun (Strings Moore Bond theme! Yeah!).

I'd also like to say how grateful I am for the awesome track lists and track editing lists. It couldn't be much easier unless you sent people the files themselves! Great work.

I'm also interested by the poster TheCat, who sounds like a member of Lukas Kendall's team. Can't think of many others who are looking for Moonraker :)

Stupid question, but has anyone ever contacted John Barry or his proxies/agents? I'm sure he has loads of stuff that's never seen the light of day.

I guess I'm just really eager to see complete CD's. If I could say what my dream job would be, it'd be DAE (digital audio editing) Bond scores. I just really want to get more music out there (and don't mind my share of legal wrangles either). A man can dream.. :)

God I'd love Octopussy and TMWTGG completed soundtracks (or should I say, Kendall I'd love? :P ).

On that note, with the new 5.1 score DVD's, is it possible to isolate the musical tracks from either the speech or sound effects? What's the best way of doing it? I'm buying a few DVD's to make homebrew soundtracks.

But anyway. I'm very glad for you guys' efforts, thanks again. I'll have to edit this week :(

Regards, and hope everyone's doing well, nice to be here finally.

Well to answer Spike's question, no one has been able to isolate the music on the DVD's that I'm aware of, without FX that is. As for more complete Octopussy and The Man With The Golden Gun scores, keep dreaming. TMWTGG was supposed to be expanded when some of the others were a few years ago, but they ran out of money and couldn't release it. As for Octopussy, it's been released multiple times with no new music ever added. Take with that what you will.

Bad news - no score will be released in the forthcoming years as far as I can tell. So tough luck. Regarding anything else, those questions are not to be discussed in public. Thank you.

What an unsatisfying reply :(

Kind of rude, too. Ah well, I'm never going to be happy with many responses from the Bond music rescue teams, it seems everyone's impotent to do anything about getting the cues (that's not a criticism mind you, more frustration, obviously dealing with record companies is tough).

Still, it's bloody annoying. I'm sure there a lot of fans who like the music from Moonraker, A View To A Kill, and to a lesser extent, Licence to Kill, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, and The Spy Who Loved Me.

Are these scores 'not worth it' because they didn't have Connery and/or weren't "John Barry's best"? It's a pretty subjective call for Lukas to say "the best Barry scores and Bond movies were the Connery years, so we chose those soundtracks". I like a lot of those films, sure, but I'd hardly call Goldfinger my favourite Bond score. The 70's/80's Bonds had superb music as well, and I think a lot of the Moore and Dalton movies were better than the Connery ones.

Anyway, back to the point- I wonder if the drive from the Kendall team is gone because they got what they wanted. That's probably an unfair thing to say, but when you read comments like...

and I advised them to do what I consider the classic Barry/Bond scores for which they did have the original masters: Thunderball through Diamonds Are Forever. Live and Let Die sort of happened as a bonus.

In addition to being the best scores, these were only done as a 3-track, 4-track or 8-track recordings and were not nearly as time consuming to remix as scores like The Man With the Golden Gun (16 track) and The Spy Who Loved Me (24 track) would have been. I don't know the whereabouts or condition of the A View to a Kill tapes.

... you wonder.

I mean, Diamonds are Forever's a pretty lame soundtrack (and movie), in my opinion. At least contrasted to other Bond movies and scores (I like DoF, I can just think of far more worthy candidates). And it got the best treatment.

Much more so than quite a few soundtracks I'd preferred to have seen. Same goes for Goldfinger.

The other arguments I appreciate (time, ease, resources etc). Except, I would have thought more tracks = better music (more complex anyway) and thus more worthy of being messed with.

Anyway. I'm only going on because I'm a very, very frustrated Bond music fan, and they can't even complete the soundtracks they did work on (Thunderball). I don't think any Bond soundtrack will ever be released properly (and I don't mean piddly 5 second cues, I mean, every long piece of music from the film over 2 CD's) and that just pisses me off. As someone said, isolated score them at least, instead of just letting them die. That's just cruel and blatantly unfair. Good on you, Cat and others, for having a go for this cause.

- Spike

That's a wrong way of thinking. Just because the technology got more sophisticated doesn't mean the music automatically got better.

It was just cues from "Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," and "Thunderball." Nothing was new. While it might be nice to have, its all music that we already have and can edit ourselves if we really so desire.

Tell me the exact cues then, because I'm remembering different orchestration in OHMSS, leading me to think it's not tracked.
