It revitalized the horror genre and led to a franchise, with follow-up films Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) and Scream 4 (2011), plus a fifth on the way. Scream was the breakthrough score for Marco Beltrami, whose avant-garde orchestral techniques and cinematic instincts created a suspense–horror style perfectly suited for the franchise—and not surprisingly led to a major Hollywood career for Beltrami, still going strong. The score is eerie and creepy one moment, evocative and haunting the next—then lurches into pulse-pounding action. It is timeless and sophisticated, befitting modern concert music, while staying intense and pulse-pounding for contemporary audiences. Beltrami returned for the second, third and fourth Scream films, all of which had their scores released by Varèse Sarabande. Now, all four Beltrami Scream scores are presented in definitive form across six CDs. The Deluxe Editions of Scream and Scream 2 are presented on discs one and two, respectively; an expanded, two-disc edition of Scream 3 is found on discs three and four; and an expanded edition of Scream 4 on disc 5. The sixth disc is an all-new, previously unreleased collection of alternates, outtakes and demos. Thor 7,499
Great news to all SCREAM fans. Love the films and the scores myself -- what I call "delicious darkness", but I'm not generally a fan of horror scores. That's why the original 30-minute Varese CD from the 90s is all I ever need. Well, that and Elfman's "Cassandra's Aria", which I own independently anyway.
Richard Penna 3,687
I don't think I've heard a note of Beltrami's Scream music. I do like some horror scores, but I get the feeling that this franchise isn't one of those. And could swear I read somewere that he didn't want one of them released due to a lack of time to write it. The great thing about them, as a non-horror music fan, is that he rather nurtures the romantic and melodic for long stretches. Much like Young's HELLRAISER. That makes them more listenable. But not to infinity. That's why the ol' Varese CD of 1 and 2 pretty much perfectly captures the essence of it before it starts to grate. I could probably add a few more minutes from the material on these sets, but not too much.
Edmilson 7,439
Fun fact: the Scream franchise is known here as... "Panic". Which is why most kids from the 90s and 2000s don't know Ghostface, they know him as "the Panic killer". Cerebral Cortex
Thor 7,499
Them wacky Brazilians! It's known as SKRIK over here -- a literal translation of SCREAM. Which makes sense, since it's the name of the Munch painting that the mask is molded on. These films always have that extra connection to us Norwegians. mstrox 6,651
Outside of the recent Fear Street movies, Scream is my favorite Beltrami score. I think I’ll pick this up, despite already having the first two movies’ DEs. The rest is just too tempting, and while I know Varese enough to assume they’ll break out the other two releases, I’d rather not be wrong about this one. Popular Post crumbs 14,313
That packaging is stunning! Kudos to all involved! Looks like a lot of love went into the creation of this set. I revisited all 4 Scream films recently and loved the way that Sid's theme carries through all 4. I'll definitely check out the digital version; it's very cool that Varese were able to licence across so many formats. Side rant: What a shame Beltrami's musical input hasn't continued into part 5. Side rant 2: If only Disney would pull their fingers out and create such a lovingly crafted box set for Star Wars or Indiana Jones. MikeH 768
The first three SCREAM scores are tremendous. JNHFan2000 2,961
I think the main reason he's not back is because the directors worked with Tyler on Ready Or Not. Kasey Kockroach 2,344
Certainly can’t be because they got bored of the series and don’t have much else to say musically. crocodile 8,012
I just decided to use the old OST covers for now until I find some nice custom ones. Took me a while to organise the scores into chronological order but it's sorted now. Not sure what to do with the two unused cues from from film three. For now, thry will remain in the bonus section. Listened to the first one last night and currently going through the second one. Jump in budget and quality is quite noticeable. The first score is quite harsh whereas the second one is really listenable. Never quite noticed that while watching the films. Might try to recreate the LP programmes at some point. Looking forward to watching the fifth movie on Friday night. Karol
mstrox 6,651
I always thought Beltrami’s Scream lost a little bit of its charm after the first, but this will be the first time I ever visit these scores back-to-back (-to-back-to-back) so maybe I’ll appreciate that budget jump a little more this time. Anyone who’s a Scream Head or generally pays attention to the score vs. the album know whether any of the disc 5 stuff is actually unreleased film versions (maybe left off of the DEs to fit them to one disc)? Or is it all alternates?

Richard Penna 3,687
The mask for me highlights a problem in general with box sets, that all the stuff inside the box is rarely seen. As already said, this appeals to a sort of collector, and like you guys, I'm not that sort either. I put a much higher priority on having well-designed cover art which displays when I play a track on my computer.
