Your favourite Bond songs, that aren't Bond songs but sound like Bond songs

And the Björk song is co-written by David Arnold, so no surprise there :P

I was wondering if the song and the Young Americans soundtrack was part of the reason, that Arnold got actually assigned to Bond.

I'm not that familiar with much of the Bond sound, so these might more be vague resemblances. But I always thought these two a-ha tracks could've suited the franchise very well. Hell, given the former was made around the time of The Living Daylights, it's possible it was either submitted or inspired by their time doing the film's main song.

It was used for the promo of Daredevil I think but it could have perfectly feet as a James Bond song IMO:

Tamer - Beautiful Crime

Donna Missal Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby from Promising Young Woman

And finally another one song for the perfect James Bond singer: Set Fire to the Rain by Adele

I never thought of Wow as a Bond song. But if you imagine it playing to Bond opening credits it actually work pretty well.

Bush was actually approached to sing the title track for Moonraker but passed on it, thinking she was not suited for the song.

Her sensuous late 70s style would have been perfect for where the franchise was stylistically at the time.

Good choice, G!

One reason I didn't buy the Intrada was I like the Cure and Cocteau Twins songs! 😁

Slightly off-topic: Really really looking forward to the new Cure album coming this year.

Might be a little far fetched but looking at the Cornel song Billy Talent have a slight Bond Vibe of that kind in some of their songs. To me at least.

But as I said, not a classical Bond song. But after the two ballads something like that might have been better for the last movie.

More like a Bond song from the Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace era.

I don't think I have any to add to the fine examples people have put so far although for a very left field choice, I always thought that Why Me?, the unused song for Jafar from Aladdin could be a Bond song in places, especially in some of the blowsy brass writing.

Still, this entire thread reminded me how much I feel the last few actual Bond songs are someone's idea of what a Bond song should sound like but without really understanding what makes a great Bond song. It's also kinda amusing that Barry got zero recognition for his bone fide classic Bond songs yet the Academy seems content to award the pale imitators.

It would only take a change in arrangement/production for this to sound like it really is a Bond song.

Edwyn Collins would've been a great choice for Bond back in the 90s really.  Instead he had a song on the first Austin Powers soundtrack!

In the late 70s she became one of the most famous people in the UK.

She indeed did not show up on America's radar until Hounds of Love in 1985.

I see Shirley Bassey has already been mentioned, but this remix from 2000 is pretty spot on.

Maybe it’s cheating to bring up Bassey since her overall career is so closely linked to the Bond-franchise?

Anyway, here it is.

Oh, I almost forgot.

Before Golden Eye Bono wrote already a perfect Bond song, but for another movie:

LOVE this track.

Always found it interesting that in 2 consecutive years, we had the 2 halves of U2 contributing to spy action franchises ... Bono and The Edge with Goldeneye's title track in '95, then Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen's take on the Mission Impossible theme in '96.

Given we've skirted the line of stuff that's sort of Bond related, I suppose I can drop what I presume are some Bond pastiches here?

This one I discovered from a YouTuber's review of the film, and I adore it in spite of being quite manic and eclectic in energy and spirit to really fit a proper 007 film:

On the other hand, this one more stood out in how heavy handed it is as this tribute for Connery's time as the character. How the hell they got him, Bassey, and Patrick Doyle for this atrocity of a film is beyond me.
