My first was alien as it contains three vowels, but actually I find that just trying a random word is more fun. When I get a little restless I give https://hellowordl.net/# a go but it tends to have more obscure words (and some I'm not sure even are words), and a large handful of times I've given up, and the word turned out to be something I'd never heard of.

I have a decent vocabulary but I just don’t have the aptitude for like anagrams and such. My wife is way better than me at Wheel of Fortune and I’m way better than her at Jeopardy! Which is to say that I do not play Wordle
Richard P 5,241 Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Having been to a couple of board game sessions, I've ascertained that I'm terrible at games reliant on very fast mental reactions/calculations, but not too bad at all at those where you have time to think and consider. Hence given that the focus of this is trying to solve it in the fewest guesses, but not trying to do it at light-speed, I'm really enjoying it.

The best first word will be one that contains many common letters. There are pages that also suggest follow up second guesses for each first guess, comprised only of letters *not* in the first word. I looked up some lists on the net and usually start with something like SENOR or NOTES now, because you've got to start somewhere, so why not with one of the recommendations. I don't do the complement 2nd word thing though, that's too algorithmic for my taste (and almost feels like cheating). I've switched to hard mode, where you have to always include all of the letters you've already found, so it wouldn't work anyway. 7 out of 13 times I needed 4 guesses. Got it in 3 twice and never needed 6, but I failed my very first word. Here's today's: Wordle 218 4/6* ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜🟩🟩⬜⬜ 🟨🟩🟩🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 And if anyone wants to try a harder version: Byrdle is based on a music only vocabulary.

As far as I can tell, mine are always grey, but Richard above has one post with grey boxes and one with black ones. Is it browser dependent (I'm using Chrome)? Or does it depend on the OS (why would it)? Is it mobile vs desktop (I'm always on desktop)?

Having seen twitter and https://yesterdayswordle.com/ I now realise I somehow skipped one! (sort of glad I did.... that's a horrible word)
