Popular Post Smeltington 1,439
Lol thanks for the shoutout as always. The Solo score rules my world, I agree the percussion is annoying, but I'm used to it. Love the new JW theme, love Powell's original material, and I continue to be amazed by what Powell did with Williams' theme, giving it much more of a workout than Williams himself did with any of the sequel trilogy themes. What a great gift to have the expansion so soon after the film. I took out the upbeat Imperial March and edited Reminiscence Therapy to remove the most blatant needledrops, the only things that really bugged me. Solo also has a special place for me after seeing Williams conduct The Adventures of Han the day before the film was released and hearing it that way for the first time. The Rogue One score, I just hate. I'm a Giacchino hater already (which I normally try not to vent too much out of respect for his fans here) and this is one of my least favorite things he's ever done. Man... Giacchino has his hands in everything these days, and it's getting to the point that his involvement on a film actually makes me think twice about watching it. Like, by the time they bring him in to work on an old franchise, maybe that's a sign the franchise is really and truly dead? Star Wars/Trek/Jurassic Park/Toy Story/Marvel, sequel #817928, now with 100% more Giacchino! I wish we could hear what Desplat would have done, but I doubt he would have been very inspired by the material anyway. And there'll be enough Star Wars movies that every composer will probably get a shot sooner or later. Both movies suck, but Solo was entertaining, while Rogue One was boring, so I picked Solo as the "better" film of the two.
