The more I'm looking at this program, the more superfluous the setlist for the second half looks. I mean, it will be nice to compare some performances to those of Berlin, sure, but he should perform Home Alone, Jane Eyre, Lincoln (especially the People's House given the current climate), TROS, BFG and Terminal much more. I'm just tired of Indy in particular.

Interestingly, the Wiener Philharmoniker have just concluded a tour to the US (originally set to be conducted by Gergiev, before he became… controversial, to put it mildly) and should be returning to Vienna soon. I wonder if that's in any way related to the timing of the Williams concerts? (Other than the fact that it obviously couldn't have happened while they were abroad)

Love seeing the parts to JW's music stamped with the VP logo...the fact that his music now has a permanent place in the Vienna Philharmonic's library just brings a smile to my face.

I can see some mics dangling in the hall but presume these are permanently installed?

I've been wondering about that as well. Maybe they have the entire "Star Wars Suite for Orchestra" score there, of which Throne Room is the final part.

Contrary to my comments on the previous page, I'd be wary. Most of the COVID restrictions were lifted last weekend in Austria (part of the reasoning was that there has been a vaccination mandate since the beginning of the month, but that has never been enforced and was just lifted today). Fortunately, Vienna is stricter, and FFP2 masks are still mandatory indoors in many places, but nevertheless infections are spiking (the numbers today are the highest they've been during the whole pandemic). At concerts, only the mask mandate remains (no 2G or 3G or anything). I'm not quite sure if restaurants and pubs still have a 2G rule (it's all a bit confusing), but even if they do, it has hardly ever been taken seriously, and customers are rarely even asked for their certificates. It's too cold to sit outside, and I wouldn't really recommend visiting a crowded restaurant at this time.

 

We're probably lucky that these concerts are happening now and not a few weeks later - if the numbers keep rising, who knows if Williams would have risked to come to Austria then.
