So not only did Tarantino love Alien in 1979, he thinks the movie still holds up today. However, his favorite movie of 1979 is Rocky 2, which he thinks betters the first one. But the best movie of 1979 according to Tarantino is:

Even though I prefer Alien over The Deer Hunter, this movie is absolutely perfect. Christopher Walken is IMO perhaps the strongest point of it
