Mike Matessino: "At least 5" new Williams releases due this year

If we are to expect three more new expansions by the end of the year, it seems inevitable that they should be relesed in close proximity to eachother.

I'm thinking that it's already (almost) mid-august, and there aren't that many more months left of 2022.

I'm not complaining, I think that's great - just stating the fact.

Which month usually have more expansions released during the fall/winter months? Is there any pattern from previous years? Or do you think that we'll get a new release "once a month?"

I certainly wouldn't hold it against him if all 5 didn't manage to make it into calendar 2022.   It'd be very hard for any producer or label to say what will be coming out that year given the uncertainties of approvals, manufacturing backups, etc.

That’s a very good point. However, given that it’s the maestro’s ninetieth year, I really do think they’re being conscientious of their release schedule and waiting to go all out for the holidays.

Absolutely no shade on MM if these releases don’t see the light of year within the end of the year.

I also imagine that from a sales perspective it would be better to let each release has its own release window. That way you can hype up each release, put each release in the spotlight (so to speak) without any soundtrack stealing another’s thunder. From a marketing point of view, you don’t want tat kind of cannibalism.

From that perspective, I could see one release at the end of august, and one Black Friday. But that is if it’s on the same label, for otherwise the release dates can’t be coordinated, and they might as well coincide.

Either way - I’m in no rush. Good times ahead. ;)

And that’s not even talking about new original music coming!

We've recently have had some expansions release in October...

2020:  WOTW

2019:  Minority Report

2018:  Dracula

Perhaps Witches of Eastwick this October?  Just in time for Halloween!

The question is, which shrinks more quickly: a) The interval between any number of given releases before the end of the year, or b) the chance that all expected releases are indeed coming out this year?

Hahaha! Love it!

Based on Jay’s statistics, it seems likely we’ll have at least one release during the span of aug-sept-oct, followed by a release on Black Friday.

Highly scientific.

Also add that Jay has not doused or added any discussion to a Jaws reissue that's been thrown around in a few of these threads. At least that I'm aware of.

If he's silent on something that has a strong chance of being released...it's a good sign.

John Williams was 73 when he wrote WOTW, not 75.  It was 17 years ago, not 15 years ago!

FYI, Mike recently said that only one more JW expansions is planned for 2022, but that the lineup for 2023 is full.

So what do you all think? Is it just The Lost World? Or does that not count if it's a straight reissue?

I don’t think the reissues counted as a “new” expansion. Did Jurassic Park count as one?

Was Mondo's Hook a remaster of the OST?

Yes, built from the ground up by Mike Matessino, using the same high-resolution transfers done in 2011 for the LLL expansion.

It's the only time the trailer music has been released at the correct speed

If it's vinyl, then "correct speed" is up to the user. ;)

Even if that and HP4 come out this year, nothing will ever beat 2018.

Perhaps not, but 2015 and 2016 were every bit as exciting for me.
