  1. 1. Which of the following is the better score?

    • House of Sand and Fog (2003) by James Horner
    • Snow Falling on Cedars (1999) by James Newton Howard

As a fan of JNH's better stuff, you'd think I'd go for Cedars, but actually I go for Sand and Fog. I'd also put The Life Before Her Eyes as a sister score.

I find Horner's meanderings strangely evocativein those two. Cedars I find a little depressing.

I love both of those too, but they don’t hold a candle to Cedars. Top 3 JNH and easily in my all time top 30 in general. Pärtian bliss.

I listened to Snow Falling on Cedars the other day and I thought it was a bit too depressing. However, the "Snow Angels/Can I Hold you Now?" combo is one of my favorite emotional moments by JNH, alongside "Malcolm is Dead" and "Central Park".
