Does Anyone Actually Listen To Jazz Anymore?

Wikipedia lists Aja under Jazz Rock / Yacht Rock / Pop Rock / Jazz.

With other words, an album not easy to catogorize.

Right, its very poppy but has mostly what are considered "jazz" chords, but its kinds of its own thing. I mean you have Michael McDonald doing all the harmonies in the back and then a bunch of jazz session players in the band, who actually do some pretty awesome stuff which gets covered up in the mix sadly.

And wtf is Yacht Rock? I feel like every rock musician ever cringes at that term.

I think my biggest problem with jazz of recent decades is that in public perception, and too often in reality, jazz is seen to have basically just two modes: relaxing background music or cerebral intellectual specialist music.  Back in the classic jazz days it was music that communicated the full range of human emotions and even when it was complex it was accessible to everyone in feeling.

I've always found the yacht rock label pretty meaningless.  A lot of the time it seems to be nothing more than "albums featuring Jeff Porcaro".

I know one thing....

Just looking at that photo for the SANFORD TOWNSEND BAD, you know they suck!😜😛

When talking about jazz does the jazzy stuff from groups like Working Week or Jamie Cullum count in?

Or is even that in the eyes of jazz fans just Pop?

I've not heard Working Week, so I cannot comment, but the likes of Jamie Cullum and Michael Bublé are to jazz what Richard Clayderman and André Reiu are to classical music: bollocks.
