BB-8 1,944
That said, there is a chance that Spielberg will be filming/directing? I have an image in my mind of Spielberg scurrying across the concert stage with a hand-held camera - as elegantly as Errol Flynn. Brando

Didn't plan to come to this concert at first, but given how it might coincide with my flight back from Europe, I'm hoping for a ticket to become available for Tuesday night. Popular Post Will 2,131
Only the encores?! What?! I hope that isn’t true. When I bought tickets, the concert was literally called “Williams Conducts Williams.” I of course understand if Williams can only conduct half, but to market a concert as “Williams Conducts Williams” and then have him conduct only 3 pieces would be extraordinary misleading and frustrating. The tickets weren’t cheap! MaxTheHouseelf, DangerMotif, Toillion and 1 other

The tickets weren’t cheap! It's been almost a year since the concert was announced. This change is undoubtedly due to health reasons. We would all like the Maestro to keep going until he's 100, but conducting (especially at fast tempos syncing to film) requires a lot of energy and at 91 he's already a decade over the average life expectancy. Given how it's sold out and turnbacks get snapped up within minutes, you can try and ring the NYPhil and ask for a refund, but you might regret it. Getting to see him in person is an immense privilege, and even if he can only conduct part of the concert, one should appreciate every moment as if it were the final concert. Will 2,131
Yeah definitely no way I’d miss it — just frustrating if, just a month after conducting a full concert in Chicago, he doesn’t even conduct half in New York. Disappointing to have looked forward to him conducting a full (or at least second half) concert and now, just days before, hearing he might be conducting almost none of it. Obviously I agree though that it’s a privilege to be able to see him conduct at all. Toillion

Popular Post JohnnyD 1,150
It was such a great concert. This is the first time I saw Steven Spielberg live and in-person. He introduced The Cave Sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as Theme from Jurassic Park and the Finale from E.T. The Maestro himself conducted the Theme from Schindler’s List (introduced by Mr. Spielberg), Raiders March from Indiana Jones, and The Imperial March from Star Wars. What a thrill and honor. Will 2,131
Fun concert! Disappointed not to get Helena’s Theme in the encores (shocking that it wasn’t included given that AFAIK literally every other recent concert of his included it). But overall it was well done. Popular Post Foxfan 44
The Maestro himself with Ken-David Masur and Steven Spielberg. It’s now been almost 20 years since I first saw him in Boston! Every musical moment in his company is a gift no recording can replicate! The tension with which he conducted Schindler’s list this evening was remarkable. The orchestra responded with necessary rubato to every gesture during that piece, no matter how slight. This was truly the highlight of the night. As a side note, did the Maestro get laser or cataract surgery? First time seeing him without glasses (apart from the photographs from his youth). It's usually the opposite when you're not feeling well. Oh, the concert? That was one hell of a concert. When they introduced him and pointed in the audience, I noticed he was DIRECTLY below me!
