Jay 32,104
Holy grails in this context means film (or TV or video game, etc) scores that you most would like to have a new album program get released for It can be scores that never had a score album at all, as well as scores that had an album, but you'd like an expanded version of In this thread, I'm specifically asking about Non-Williams grails (I can do another thread for Williams grails too, but I figured I'd wait until the two titles MM teased he is aiming to have come out at the end of the year, are out) So, what are your holy grails these days?? Jay 32,104
I recently found an old grail list I had saved on an old hard drive, and here are the non-Williams on it: Spoiler Didn't even get a score album Back To The Future (Silvestri) Die Hard (Kamen) Ghostbusters (Bernstein) The Goonies (Grusin) Gremlins (Goldsmith) Earth Star Voyager (Schifrin) Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (Horner) Predator (Silvestri) Speed 2: Cruise Control (Mancina) Tango and Cash (Faltermeyer) Has a score album, but would love a complete edition The Abyss (Silvestri) Air Force One (Goldsmith) Aliens (Horner) Apollo 13 (Horner) City Slickers (Shaiman) City Slickers II (Shaiman) Contact (Silvestri) Cutthroat Island (Debney) Batman (Elfman) Batman Returns (Elfman) Beetlejuice (Elfman) Die Hard With A Vengeance (Kamen) Edward Scissorhands (Elfman) Fifth Element (Serra) Independence Day (Arnold) The Last Starfighter (Safan) The Matrix (Davis) Mission: Impossible (Elfman) Predator 2 (Silvestri) Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (Kamen) Robocop (Poledouris) Rocketeer (Horner) Star Trek 2 (Horner) Star Trek 3 (Horner) Starship Troopers (Poledouris) Tomorrow Never Dies (Arnold) Total Recall (Goldsmith) Twister (Mancina) Waterworld (JNH) Willow (Horner) It's amazing that now, 20 years later, out of the 40 titles listed above, only 5 remain now after the Willow announcement! Wow! So my current grail list - and I can't help myself but split it up again - is: Didn't even get a score album Alcatraz (Tilton and Datzman) ALIAS Season 3 (Giacchino) ALIAS Seasons 4-5 (Tilton) Assassins (Mancina) Batman and Robin (Goldenthal) Earth Star Voyager (Schifrin) King Kong rejected (Shore) Romeo and Juliet rejected (Horner) Spider-Man 3 (Young) Undercovers (Datzman) Has a score album, but would love a complete edition Brainstorm (Horner) Fifth Element (Serra) The Hobbit (Shore) Last Action Hero (Kamen) License To Kill (Kamen) LOST (Giacchino) Now You See Me (Tyler) Midnight Run (Elfman) To Die For (Elfman) Sneakers (Horner) Has some form of expanded release, but would love a more definitive/complete edition Beetlejuice (Elfman) Casino Royale (Arnold) Dead Presidents (Elfman) Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (Horner) The Lord of the Rings (Shore) Mars Attacks! Technically MacArthur would be a premiere, of sorts -- the film recording is entirely unreleased! Just as with The Eiger Sanction until this past year, only the unique album recording has been released. Some 20th Century Fox Goldsmith grails of mine can be found in this post here: https://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/33272-goldsmith-at-20th-new-series-of-releases-by-la-la-land/&do=findComment&comment=1762880 Expansions of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Anna and the King, the two remaining things exclusive to the Varese Goldsmith at Fox box, are probably near the top of my list. I want complete versions of The Chairman and Ransom (aka The Terrorists) too, of course, but those would almost certainly have to be re-recordings since it seems original complete score elements are lost. Same probably goes for Link and Secret of NIMH and Under Fire and In Harm's Way. But if we're dreaming about new recordings I'll also throw Babe, the Gallant Pig on the wishlist! From Varese Sarabande I would particularly like Deluxe Editions of Medicine Man, City Hall, The Other, Mephisto Waltz, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, Our Man Flint, and Mom and Dad Save the World. Here are complete score breakdowns for the first two: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=109823&forumID=1&archive=0 http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=110759&forumID=1&archive=0 It would also be nice if they could release a complete version of The Final Conflict at last. Non-Varese controlled, non-20th Century Fox expansions I want: Leviathan Raggedy Man Twilight's Last Gleaming Goldsmith premieres (either original recordings or new recordings if necessary): Indict & Convict Crawlspace Pursuit Lights Out The Waltons (six episode scores) "The People Next Door" (feature-length CBS Playhouse from the late 60s, and the genesis of the Chinatown theme) The Expendables (unsold pilot) a bunch of other great early TV work The General With the Cockeyed Id (there is a bootleg of it but it's very shoddy; written scores exist for a new recording if necessary) Goldsmith's first time scoring animation, and there's a lot of good music! Marian Schedenig 6,522
Aside from the Williamses and several remaining Goldsmith's there's not much left now. A few I can think of: Brainstorm (Horner) (expansion) The Hallelujah Trail (Bernstein; presumed lost aside from the album tracks) (expansion) A full re-recording of Captain Blood (Korngold) Nice, but not absolutely essential: Sneakers (Horner) (expansion) Frankenstein (Doyle) (expansion, incl. source music) Koyaanisqatsi (Glass) (remastered expansion, but I believe that's also considered lost?) A. A. Ron 1,014
I'm at a pretty good place as far as expanded soundtracks go. Popular Post enderdrag64 374
This would probably never happen but I'd love to see a complete release of Murray Gold's score for his seasons on Doctor Who (2005-2017). There's some absolutely fantastic music he wrote for that series that hasn't seen the light of day. There are some pretty excellent fan rips from some of the blu-rays that are available that while they are largely clean, many cues are still riddled with sfx and it would nice to hear the score as it was actually recorded. Also I'd love to see some official expansions for some of the Star Wars animated shows, particularly the Clone Wars. I think there's a lot of great music for that too that hasn't been released. Even the latest season that got official albums for every arc still has tons of great music unreleased. Bofur01, Dave and Tom Guernsey 1

mstrox 5,889
Mostly a boatload of Elfman premieres and expansions. Jay, did I miss out on an expanded Dead Presidents, or are you just referring to the suite on Elfman’s compilation as some form of expanded release? Edit: or a boot I guess! Jay 32,104
I am indeed referring to the suite on MFAD2 I would never consider a boot to be an existing expansion, that's ridiculous
Popular Post Disco Stu 15,475
In terms of completely unreleased scores that I dearly wish I could listen to whenever I want, the biggest for me is: Geoffrey Burgon's scores for the BBC Narnia series. I won't pretend this is essential film/television music that everyone should want, but these cues are so ingrained in me for so many years. I wants it!
