So JW has mentioned in an interview that he composes something everyday, to stay in practice...

Do you think he just sits down and improvises for a little bit or does he actually write a couple pages down on sheet music, even if it is terrible?

I’d taker Williams at his word. He composes something every day. Well almost every day. He’s also said he takes Sunday’s off. That might be when he’s writing a large work and could use a break.
