Dumbest examples of plagiarism or self-plagiarism

What are the dumbest moments of things like that you've ever heard?

Lorne Balfe's score for third Bad Boys comes to my mind, where he just copies music from the Modern Warfare 2 exactly in the same arrangement like in the game. And that track is written by him.

That is not plagiarism, because neither of the composers wrote that percussion. It's just a standard percussion loop in an old sample library, most likely EW Percussive Adventures. Those are meant to be used by any composer in any project. The ethnic strings are probably from Spectrasonics or one of those older libraries (maybe even EW Goliath?)

For example, compare the opening here---

---with this quick recreation that I made

The Horner self plagiarism example I hate the most are the Braveheart quotes on Bicentennial Man and Bobby Jones: Stroke of a Genius. These are pretty decent scores that are ruined right as Braveheart music starts to play. And I say that as a big Horner fan.

I see sample libraries as tools for hobby composers because they can't get a real orchestra, or as tools for professional composers to demo and get a feeling of where they're going.

They shouldn't ever appear in actual Soundtrack releases because composers SHOULD be above that.

Hate to break it to ya, but that’s been the industry standard for awhile now.

The beginning reminds me of The Lost World.

But is it not problematic that these sample libraries dictate a lot of the scoring simply cos scorers don't have sufficient time to, well, score.

I mean JW did it in AI - he used the same sample for that moon chase cue as Isham did in Crash......

Happy to see someone else knows about the ridiculous temping in Merlin!

So I was watching Dogma and I don’t know if it’s just me but I recognized a familiar tune playing in the background of this scene. It’s the “Rivendell” theme from LOTR. Almost note-for-note. So I looked up who did the score thinking it would be a rando but no it was Howard Shore of all people.
