So, despite the awful ticket situation (I still don't even have one as of this writing), I think there are a decent amount of us that will be in Milan on December 12th, and presumably a good portion of the weekend just before.

 

Who is interested in having dinner together before the concert / getting drinks together after the concert?

 

Maybe @TownerFan can make some location recommendations

At this stage I'm planning to be in Milan from the 10th-14th. Unsure about my movements before or after, and have nothing planned except the concert.

Slightly off topic but I have to say I'm having a blast exploring Rome at the moment! 

 

It got me thinking about whether JW might fly direct to Milan or explore other parts of Italy when he's here. Also wonder how long before the concert he might arrive?

@TownerFan has astutely pointed out that most if not all of the restaurants in the area of the concert won't even start dinner service until 7 or 730, and with the concert starting at 8, it doesn't really make sense to try to all have a dinner together.

 

Instead, he will share a bar here which we can all go to after the concert, and hopefully someone will remember to get a group picture!

Are you sure about that? I've checked on TripAdvisor, and there seemed to be plenty of restaurants that were open for dinner from 6 pm. There are also some that are open until midnight, so a post-concert dinner could also be an option.

 

Of course, as a non-Milanese, I cannot vouch for the quality of those restaurants, though.

It’s a very easygoing place that serves craft beers and burgers, but it’s big enough to get a large group. Let me know by tomorrow how many of you plans to join and I’ll try to reserve a table or two. It’s open until midnight. Awesome. I'm not too bothered missing the concert, having heard more or less the same programme already in Vienna and Berlin (though it'd be nice to visit La Scala, obviously). But I sure miss hanging out with you guys again. Not often that the big crowd has a chance to get together. The selected bar, it turns out, is unable to accommodate us, and so is our backup. So, we will now meet at our backup backup: the bar at the Park Hyatt

I am so glad you guys got to have a good time there!

 

When we (me, @TownerFan, @bigjimwilson, @Jim Ware, @Chewy, @crumbs, @fommes+ wives so a total of only like 12 people) showed up (at like, 1030), they told us they could not take us! Even though there was many open seats at the bar? 

 

So we had to find another place that ended up having good drinks and food, but a cluster of a bill situation. @bigjimwilsongot a picture of all of us he can hopefully post

 

After that place closed, we tried 1...2...3...4? Other bars... And they were all closed. Milan did not want to take our money in exchange for alcohol on a Monday night. Oh well.
