Jay 37,353
I wish I had any photos on my phone I could post! Hopefully someone else will post soon! And I still can't believe you guys were able to stay at the Hyatt and have a good time, but they told us to leave when we came to join. I don't understand! When we (me, @TownerFan, @bigjimwilson, @Jim Ware, @Chewy, @crumbs, @fommes+ wives so a total of only like 12 people) showed up (at like, 1030), they told us they could not take us! Even though there was many open seats at the bar? So we had to find another place that ended up having good drinks and food, but a cluster of a bill situation. @bigjimwilsongot a picture of all of us he can hopefully post After that place closed, we tried 1...2...3...4? Other bars... And they were all closed. Milan did not want to take our money in exchange for alcohol on a Monday night. Oh well. It was still a magical evening Brilliant evening. By the way: After 20 (!) years we finally paid a visit to Stefano in Torino (we did meet yearly in Grado on summer vacations, thankfully) at his music studio where you can see him in front of his retirement plan in the form of some ~40 year-old vinyl records he bought around 11 years old ... and I am so very happy to finally having been able to gift him with a close encounter he was waiting for almost his whole life. He in turn showed us around beautiful Torino. Thanks Stefano! O/ P.S. Hopefully you will join us here on the forum after your initiation, Stevie! (thx of course also to romy) ... and Martin >>>> THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY > WILLIAMS IN REAL LIFE :-) ____ ... no words!!!!!! (i'm still shocked!!) ___ ... i saw in summer 78 star wars for the first time and since then williams is a part of my life (deep inside me..). to hear the force theme and the main theme and leia ... in real life with the maestro in persona in front of me conducting it, this was bigger than whatever a small human being as me could ever imagine. i was crying all the time. ___ the records on my office wall are there to fill up the wall, but i choosed a) covers with an cartoonlike look and most important b) with a real profound sense: at elementary school i was totaly in love with kiss ... who was not? (at 8 or 9 i made a red electric guitar with cardboard and with my carneval dracula cape i was ace frehley singing along the whole cassette of "unmasked" which my father brought me from taiwan ... of course it was an illegal copy as they produced them all in taiwan in that period...); my brother bought the deep purple live LP and first i hatet it, it was to much at that time for me, but later starting playing guitar i understood that this recording is the basic of rock \m/ (the exactly same was with the lp 1984 - van halen); as teenager i fell in love with blade runner and vangelis (that soundtrack is also basic for so much what is still happening now) ... and there is harrison ford ... oh, how strange, he's also in indiana jones and star wars ... and how strange .... indiana jones in my heart of course ... and there is JOHN :); and here it is .... my absolute musical base is john williams and queen (when i heard for the first time we are the champions something incredible happened to me ... i perfectly remember that exactly moment at home of my elementary school campaign when he let me listen to his brothers record, the 45" single .... magic) ... and there they are ... at 12 i had all lp's of williams and queen. ...... it's a pitty, but i never saw queen with freddie ... but martin let happen the other magic think .... this monday in the scala. Popular Post TownerFan 4,983
First of all, I just want to say that I am deeply sorry for not being able to set up a proper fan gathering in my hometown. I had a very intense and busy 6 weeks leading to the concert on many fronts (busy work schedule, house renovations, extra activities tied to Legacy of JW, family issues, even Covid got in the way) and it really didn't come to me until Jay started poking me here that something should be done. I am sorry the original plan to go that pub-restaurant screwed up at the last minute and that the Park Hyatt replacement didn't work for everyone. So please accept my sincerest apologies! I just hope Milano treated well all of you who came to visit, that you weren't overcharged for any service and that you got to do some nice sightseeing around while waiting for the Maestro to lead the Filarmonica and that maybe one day you will come back for more concerts or perhaps just to visit more of the city. I wish I was be able to say hello to each one of you who was there and I am sorry I didn't catch so many of you. Since my face now is pretty well known I guess (lol), next time you'll see me just don't be afraid to stop me to say hello Everyone who did said some very nice things about Legacy of JW and it really warms my heart that people appreciate the work we're doing and want to say it in person. Having John here was really the realization of a dream. I wished to see him performing at La Scala since I was a kid and to see this happening was really magical. Dreams can really come true, especially when there is someone so special like John Williams involved. The main event was to see John Williams live, and meeting you and everyone else would have been a very welcome bonus. Besides, I was so overwhelmed by the concert that I was just lost for words after… so I’m not sure I would have been able to have an intelligible chat with anyone after the concert! Visiting Milan (and Italy!) for the first time was nice, but it made me realize something: beautiful and historic buildings like the Milan Duomo will be around forever, but our favorite composers won’t be, so we need to see them conduct their own music live while we still can. When someone else is at that podium, it just isn’t the same. I have no regrets about the cost and time involved flying all the way from Japan to see this concert. I’d certainly do it again... in a heartbeeps heartbeat 😊 Chewy, GlastoEls, BB-8 and 3 others 5
