GerateWohl 2500
They could just put the first 70 minutes of the score chronologically on the OST, cut it off from there and save the rest for a later release in 10 years or so. Popular Post TolkienSS 184
I really wish Williams would keep up with modern digital music services, and allow people to hear the quasi full score as recorded, like so many others do. There are hours of music released for any third rate new TV show, but a legacy JW score is available only on a chopped up 70 minute album? That's just not right. It's fine that Williams has control over the soundtrack assembly, it's his music, but it really wouldn't put a dent in his crown if he released a full score on streaming services, in addition to the well put together concept album he has done for 40 years. Alex 2387
I think this is the most excited I’ve been for a new JW score, even more so than for TFA. Anyone else feel the same? artguy360
Tom 3373
I think that it will be an excellent score. I probably am a bit more excited about the prospect of a full piano concerto, but as that is far less definite, it is harder to rally behind it just yet. When it comes to Williams and projects such as Indy, there is a tendency to react negatively if it does not reach masterpiece-level scoring. So, I also expect some muted initial reactions. Spoiler If the Archimedes rumors are true, then I look forward to Ancient Greek-styled epic music, which Williams has not really done before. That excites me the most in terms of the movie. A throwback patriotic march to the parade chase too, but my gut tells me that is not going to happen.
Popular Post mrbellamy 5622
That's a fun tangent of its own, what were the John Williams scores that got us most excited? I think my own shortlist would be Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Revenge of the Sith, Tintin/War Horse (tied), Force Awakens, and Last Jedi Tintin/War Horse is a bit of an anomaly but it was just the fact they were coming out together, seemed like big music-heavy projects, and it was three years' worth waiting for a Williams score during which a Harry Potter return had been teased and dashed...holy blueballs I can't put Rise of Skywalker all the way up there just cause there were more "knowns" by that point, especially with JJ back and having a good idea after TLJ what version of "sequel Williams" it was gonna be. I did think there was a chance he could get crazy on VII or VIII and that was exciting. Since they ended up being more on the conventional side of excellence my anxiety settled down to 9/10 from 10/10 haha. Weirdly I don't recall being super hyped for Crystal Skull. I was definitely excited but I guess I've just never been as deep on Indy? The other Spielbergs, it's hard to really get myself as pumped for the dramas. Even though I have many favorites, imagining the score is harder so it's always more wait-to-hear. I might have been more locked into the potential of something like Memoirs these days. I remember looking forward to WotW but I knew it wouldn't have the big lush themes I loved most. And I was excited about BFG because I knew it'd be very music-heavy, but I also had a sense what that was gonna be. I also have great memories anticipating Book Thief because it was so random and a short wait from the announcement. I'm solid on Dial of Destiny rn. It'll be really good, but I guess I also feel like I know what to expect. I like "Helena's Theme" but I'm not obsessed with it, and the trailer didn't blow me away so I have kinda safe boundaries for what I want and I'm also at peace with it being the last ever JW. I'd be happy with a very normal action-adventure score. I don't anticipate wild stylistic turns from him anymore so that'd be awesome but not something I'm really thinking about, and then overall it's just variable how well the movie and various sequences are constructed technically and emotionally, and how locked in he gets. Could be fantastic! Not Mr. Big, Cerebral Cortex, Brando and 1 other
Richard Penna 2504
I got into scores too late for most of his 'classic' franchise scores and considering I'm not into SW, however I do remember getting excited for RotK and PoA at uni. I remain almost impartial on DoD - Helena's theme isnt my thing, but my main issue with KotCS is that the film IMO is so dull that the character/MacGuffin bits didn't provide JW with anything to work with, and the music reflected that. I have far higher expectations for this one but I certainly don't expect to get anything regarded as well as Raiders, for example.
Popular Post Tom 3373
In the last 15 years, The Force Awakens tops the list for me. Tintin was a big deal for me as it was the first cartoon (yes, I know) that Williams would score. They were both slight initial letdowns to me, but that was due to my insane expectations more than anything else. I still think had Williams opened with or at least included a concert version of the heroic version of Tintin's theme, it would be considered a top ten score for many more people. GerateWohl 2500
In a way, for Dial of Destiny I see a similar problem coming like I already had with KotCS: That there might be too much stuff in the movie and that more is somehow less. In KotCS there were too many places, too many characters without really coming together as one consistent story. And even for the McGuffin it was not really clear where it was and how. At the beginning they find one in the warehouse in that box including a full skelleton. But then later they search it as well in some graves. Then later in that ufo temple, there they find the skeletons and just one head is missing and no body. I don't understand this until today. At least that's the taste in the back of my mouth after all this time. But I love to be proven wrong. Andy
