igger6 894
Beneath his dignity for sure, but I'm glad it's happening and I'm watching nonetheless! I love anything that gets Williams' name out there and reminds casual movie fans that this giant is as accomplished (and alive!) as he is. I just wish he was doing Fallon so he'd have to play freeze tag or something. Williams' path through the world of interviews has been an odd one. Remember, he also did Tavis Smiley in 2015 to promote TFA, and that might be the longest interview with him I've seen apart from that radio interview posted to YouTube a couple of years ago from the '80s. He really needs to do a long-form sit-down with whoever is the less perverted successor to Charlie Rose. But then again, the documentary will hopefully scratch that itch. I just asked it to do this: write a short concert speech in the style of John Williams including funny anecdotes about Daisy Ridley, star wars and composers who are dead. Here's what I got: Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to this wonderful concert tonight. As we celebrate the iconic Star Wars music and the talents of the incomparable Daisy Ridley, I want to share a few funny anecdotes with you. You know, it's not easy being a composer. We spend hours and hours locked up in a studio, trying to come up with melodies that will capture the hearts and souls of audiences around the world. But sometimes, inspiration strikes in the most unexpected ways. I remember one time, I was walking in the park, trying to come up with a new theme, when suddenly, a squirrel ran up to me and started chattering away. And just like that, I had my melody! Speaking of unexpected things, I have to tell you about the time Daisy Ridley and I were working on the Star Wars soundtrack, and we couldn't stop laughing because we kept imagining what it would be like if some of the great composers from the past were still alive and composing for the movies. Can you imagine Beethoven's take on the Imperial March? Or Mozart's version of the Cantina Band? And what about Bach's interpretation of the Force theme? It's hilarious to think about, but who knows? Maybe they would have been brilliant! But let's not forget the composers who are no longer with us. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and I feel privileged to have been inspired by so many great masters of the past. I remember once, I was at a party with some fellow composers, and we were all trying to come up with the most ridiculous idea for a composition. And then someone suggested, "How about a piece for a hundred pianos, all playing different things at the same time?" And we all laughed, until someone said, "You know who would have loved that idea? John Cage!" And we all stopped laughing, because we knew it was true. So, as we enjoy the Star Wars music and the talents of Daisy Ridley, let's remember to keep our sense of humor, to stay curious, and to be inspired by the great composers of the past. Thank you, and enjoy the concert! The Lost Folio, Marian Schedenig, Trope and 10 others

This was indeed filmed in California at Spielberg’s Amblin offices. The first half of the episode was with only Spielberg, then the Williams segment started. Colbert just said there isn’t enough time in the episode to air everything, so there’ll be more of the interview with both of them aired next week.
