Just because he didn't put them in as examples doesn't mean he didn't interview them

Much love

Is it announced on any other media or social media platforms in the world?  Other than Timgreiving.com?  For example X, TMZ, ET, publisher, anyone?  Any prepub here?   Anything

Anything.   Like any where

Originally the website said "Spring 2025" and was changed to "Coming Soon" so I'm just gonna hazard a guess that it'll be later than spring. But hopefully not much later.

Authors can't always independently announce these things. Publishers, publicists, etc. have a scheme they like to follow in order to make the biggest impact.

I'm always amused by people asking, "Hey, is Product X coming soon????" Like creators toil away, but forget that they are supposed to announce a release date. "Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder! It'll be out Tuesday!" ... So the big reveal is the eleventh reply on some random Twitter thread.

Anyway, give Tim some space. It's a big project, and there are a number of hands on the wheel.

Thank you.

I know it is hard waiting for this to be released, let alone awaiting for the release date to be revealed (believe me, I am most anxious for more updates to come out), but patience is a virtue. @Maestro will reveal everything like he said when it is time.

There's plenty of other stuff to do in the meantime.

E.g., unwrap sealed CDs and listen to them front to end.

...or continually bump this thread ;-)

Right. I still have a pending order from Soundtrack Corner since May last year.

Like trying to remember how many years it has been since an expanded JFK was announced by a record label.  I know, the more interesting tidbit is why it's been so long.  You think it might be simply waiting for Kevin Costner to sign off on the use of his image?

When this biography comes out, I put it in the queue of what I'm reading.  Until then, I'll keeping reading.

I think read somewhere recently (maybe on Film Score Monthly), that JFK isn't going ahead. Can anyone confirm or call BS on that?

And getting back to the topic of the book. Huh, it's not out yet??

I’m pretty sure LLL never “announced” JFK, any more than Lukas Kendall announced Moonraker tapes were lost.

IIRC they once included mention of it in a post on the FSM board, in the context of it being a frequently requested title which people were going to have to wait a while longer for. Just because they had hopes/plans to tackle it is not the same as them officially announcing it or even putting it into production.

Yeah, and the exact MV quote from FSM in that thread is,

"JFK -- 2017 or later
POLICE ACADEMY 2 - 2017 or later

Like I stated we do have some more Goldsmith and Williams in the works for 2016. We'll see what happens"

He wrote “2017 or later” in early 2016. That to me says it’s on the back burner, or delayed for various reasons. That is NOT an announcement; it’s “we hope to get to this eventually in the future”. And there’s a reason MV doesn’t post stuff like this any more about prospective future releases. We haven’t seen Police Academy 2 either.

That is why it is such a good way to kill time.

Got it; no problem. Thanks, @Jay

I'd also like to add that @Maestro was most generous and kind to answer questions about this upcoming tome that he has worked on since 2020. Everything he has shared is more than enough details to make this book one of the most exciting and anticipated John Williams releases coming this year, if not THE most. I thank you for this and more, Tim.

Mr. Greiving said he will share the actual release date when the time is right. The year has JUST started, and these kind of things take some time to get ready.

That's great news!

Of the three titles, my favorite is John Williams: Adventures On Earth, but I can understand why the publisher went with the more descriptive title. When I get the Kindle version, I can change the title back to my favorite.

I love how the chapter titles are taken from track titles used over the years 🤩

Yes, that's genius, I actually got goosebumps reading them.

An evil evil part of me says "eh, at this point just wait a few years, in a year or two we'll get the piano concerto and a new Spielberg score that won't be addressed in this book, and then sooner rather than later we'll be unfortunately guaranteed to not get anything more that it would have to be updated for".

But the rest of me is really happy.

Perhaps we fans fooled around too much with the title issue?

"John Williams: A Composer's Life is the first and last word on the great court composer of the cinema age, the musical conductor of our collective memory."

Oh dear, that sounds so final.

Do books like these from this publisher usually get distributed elsewhere too? I really want this physically if I can get it without extra bullshit steps and fees.

Tim

Will the book include a full list of who you interviewed?

I'm also curious, since the book must be finished by now, do you still stay in contact with Williams?

I can barely contain my excitement. I am so ready for this.

Apologies if I missed it in this thread, but will the publisher put an ebook version out?  I am going to buy the book either way, but I prefer ebook and don’t want to preorder a hardcover if it’s coming.
