Seriously, flooding this topic with nothing but pun titles for this upcoming biography that already has its title, is 100% finished and waiting for a release date from the publisher to be revealed once @Maestro knows, HAS TO STOP.

I'm just saying; it gets to a point where enough is enough. This thread is about the upcoming biography, John Williams: Adventures On Earth, and therefore should pertain to information/updates about said upcoming biography.

Well, there isn't much to do than wait at this point, Johnny. I'm sure actual updates on the book will come in due time, and posted here, when it's closer to release date. While I also find the endless banter and joking tiring here on JWFAN, I don't mind a little bit of 'shooting the breeze' to pass the waiting time. They're easily scrolled by, anyway.

Fair point. I can agree with that. It's just that any time this thread is bumped up, I had figured there would be more news. I'm just really looking forward to getting this book and eagerly await an update from @Maestro about the official release date, and when pre-order will be available.

I bet it will turn out to be just another Goldsmith bio.

It may even come out before the physical version of the Goldsmiths bio. ;)

Really?

They're apparently having some trouble getting a printing time slot. Hopefully it'll be sorted out soon.

There will absolutely be an audiobook! Those represent a huge percentage of sales for publishers these days, so it's really a no-brainer. I won't be reading it myself, but I've pitched some ideal narrators to Oxford Press and am hoping they go for my top choice...

It won't include cues, unfortunately, since that would be a rights nightmare. But when the mood strikes you should just switch from the audiobook over to any given score/track under discussion for a dynamic experience!

Regarding the dead link, if the OP (@Marian) could update that in the top post, that would be great!

I don’t know if it’s a given or not these days for all books, but is it fair to assume that there will be an ebook version? I love to be able to read in the dark on my iPad.

He did give some very minor feedback... but mostly he was just gracious and has allowed this to be an independent (and even critical) study of his life and work. He has been extremely generous in that way—and so many others.

That is so great. Man, I can't wait to get my copy of this book.

With the quadruple-volume biography for Horner and the two-volumes for Goldsmith... can you give us a clue on how many pages the book will have?  Manuceau's book is a little under 300 pages.

Is the demand so low?

I don't think this has anything to do with it - unless maybe you have so much demand that you have an actual financial leverage (entirely unrealistic for anything related to film music I would expect).

Both books have been submitted in softbound and hardbound formats to Amazon’s print-on-demand service and we hope to see our first printed proofs before the end of this month.  This an entirely new method of publishing for us as all of our previous books over the last 15 years have been printed in China using a U.S.-based representative.  As we mentioned in our last update, the landscape of publishing has shifted dramatically, namely in hugely increased printing and shipping costs.  We’ve shared your frustration while trying to educate ourselves in an unfamiliar new process where the learning curve alternated from daunting to nearly insurmountable at times.  However, fingers crossed that the quality of the soon-to-be-delivered proofs will meet our standards and the fulfillment process will begin immediately after.

I'm surprised they don't aim higher and get published by a proper publisher. That would likely reduce their share per sold book, but they'd probably get better distribution and more copies sold.

I suppose the issue is that they calculated the original campaign based on costs that have since multiplied, so they had to find a way to produce at least the physical editions for backers within the existing budget.
